NY Times - Pomades, waxes and gels, oh my!

7/28/2006 2:40PM by Nic Lloyd

A New York Times piece goes over the basics of gels, pomades, waxes, balms (hair balm!?), pastes and putties for making that male hair look perfect (which sometimes really means messy). Noticeably absent is any mention of mousse -- take a hint guys, mousse does not make a man.

Walking down the street, it's easy to see that there are many guys who just don't get it -- the spiky, crunchy and sometimes dangerous hair-do is out of style. To avoid this all-too-common mistake, don't let the gel/pomade stiffen in place. Either use your choice of hair product while your hair is still damp, or upgrade -- many of the more expensive products use higher quality polymers which will help you out.

It's not just the crunchy-do to watch out for. Going crazy with this abundance of new products makes it easy to end up looking like Matt Dillon in The Outsiders, hair dripping and shining with product.

So ladies, if you know a guy who abuses his right to control his hair -- please, let him know.
