Seven days of Style: Shopping for clothes online

shoppingI think I read somewhere that the difference between men and women is that men buy, whereas women shop. Yes, there is some sort of aura that surrounds the whole cult of shopping -- doing the research, going to the stores, comparing prices, trying things on, and finally, if we're happy with what we saw in the three-way mirror, actually making a purchase. But let's be real here. With the way life is accelerating to warp speed, there is less and less time to actually go shopping.

Thank God for the Internet. You can shop faster, at more stores, in your pajamas, and best of all, you can try things on in the privacy of your own room, where the lighting actually makes you look pretty good, and a salesperson isn't guilting you into buying something that is totally wrong for you.

Here are some of the best places to shop on the Internet, a different type for each day of the week. If you have an online shopping secret I've missed, let us know in the comments!
Sunday - Just about every major department store has an online presence, and many of their sites have sales, deals, and bargains that are not available in stores: Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom (particularly good for shoes), and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Monday - Two sites that are geared toward girls and teens are still good resources for those of who are young women at heart for casual threads likes tanks, t-shirts, and hooded sweatshirts: Alloy and Delia's

Tuesday - Sure, it's only Tuesday, but if you want something cute for the weekend you need to buy it now in order to get it shipped in time, right? You can find up and coming designers at Girlshop and Pink Mascara.

Wednesday - Both Urban Outfitters and KarmaLoop carry "urban" clothes, the latter geared toward a "street" style. Though the models look very young on both sites (college or younger), I would definitely wear a lot of the stuff they carry (and I'm no spring chicken).

Thursday - Some of the best discount shopping can be had without the hassle of crowds and the stress of rummaging through messy racks. Target is a great place for basics like underwear and hosiery. I also like swimsuits by Mossimo because I don't feel guilty for spending less than $30 for a swimsuit that I will only wear for three months. Overstock is also another pace to find deep discounts, particularly on designer items.

Friday - It's payday, so not only do you deserve some designer duds for all that hard work you've done, you've actually got the money to spend! Several places carry designer apparel and accessories. Couture Candy, Intermix, ShopBop are great resources for new, hip designers like Alice+Olivia, Diesel, Rachel Pally, and Ya-Ya. Net-a-Porter and Yoox also carry ultra high-end designers like Armani, Chloe, Dolce&Gabbana, and Marc Jacobs. eLuxury is especially good for the latest deigner handbags from Fendi, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton.

Saturday - I think I could spend the majority of my online time shopping for shoes. In fact, I could probably spend the majority of my online shoe shopping time on one site: zappos. When they first started a few years ago, I thought it was a ridiculous name. Well, who cares about the name?!?! They have a huge selection of shoes, always have things on sale, and they have a fabulous return policy. You have up to one year to return shoes (unused, of course), and zappos pays for shipping.
