In Thursday's Style Section in the New York Times Ruth La Ferla wrote a great piece about the return of the dress. In addition to praising the return of femininity, the article brought up surprising point. For the past two decades, the idea of comfort has been pseudonymous with pants in general, and jeans in particular. But La Ferla suggests that many of the women who traded in their Sevens for dresses are actually surprised to find that they are actually more comfortable than pants.
I have to agree with these women. The most comfortable article of clothing I own at the moment is a heavy-cotton shirt dress in a rich aubergine. In it, I feel feminine, relaxed, but still very pulled together, which is not something that I always feel when I'm wearing a pair of jeans.
What do you think? Is it possible that dresses really are the new comfort clothes?
