Checking out the Thrive fashion show

10/17/2006 11:07AM by Deidre Woollard

The T-shirt they handed out at the Thrive, the first show at LA Fashion Week says simply "Sex Sells" in big block letters. While the shirt may be a throwback to the 1980s and the "Frankie Says Relax" era, the show was far more current, featuring both male and female models in heavy makeup and flowing fashions (although the shirt did make an appearance across the torso of one male model).

There was certainly sex on display. The lace and sheer outfits provided me with more nipples than I was prepared to see in one afternoon. The hair and makeup continued the over-the-top obvious sexy theme with teased clouds of hair and dark shadowed eyes for both the men and the women.

But was it sexy? Certainly there were moments, a male model strolled out in a flowing satin trench coat that trailed behind him in a fluid wave, a beautiful blonde girl wreathed in gold lace was a Venusian vision but overall the mood was about pushing the forced sexy. The show seemed to hint at the fact that the illusion rather than the follow-through and the clothing, while innovative, wasn't entirely wearable. But who wants wearable on the catwalk? Overall, not a bad way to start off fashion week.

Here at Styledash we like to give the fashion show swag to the reader so let me know in the comments where you would wear your "Sex Sells" T-shirt and it's yours. It's a large, fairly sheer and also has the Thrive logo on the back. Best comment, at my discretion, wins the shirt.
