Cod: the new it-fish
Of all the seafood one could possibly eat, cod seems like the least glamorous. Actually, tilapia would the be the least glamorous, but cod would have to be a close second. But cod's stock might be about to change. Believe it or not, reserves of the mild white fish are starting to dwindle. Why? Well, it seems that the British taste for this fish started to significantly deplete the populations of cod in the cold waters of the northern hemisphere. The scarcity of cod has caused a number of British supermarket chains and restaurants to only sell sustainably-harvested fish from Iceland. But even that doesn't seem to be solving the problem of cod scarcity. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN suggests that over 90% of the species has already been lost.
What does this mean for cod? Well, if the seafood industry is anything like the fashion industry, then you can consider cod the Birkin bag of the ocean.
