Max Azria's jungle adventure
"You know what I wish? I wish more boutiques were, you know. Foliage-filled? Like the jungle!"I guess this is the type of conversation that inspired designer Patrick Dougherty to create a tree-sapling construction, natural-growth-inspired, facade for the front of the first ever free-standing Max Azria boutique. The boutique is located (where else!) on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.
"There is something very exciting about presenting a work of art on a major Los Angeles thoroughfare, as opposed to showing it indoors," said Azria when asked about his unusual choice of construction materials and architectural design.
Although I'll admit to having little understanding of why the "jungle" motif seemed the best choice for Azria's first boutique, I will say that I am interested enough to see this wildly-overgrown masterpiece on Melrose that I might stop in myself. So, Mr. Azria, mission accomplished, I suppose.
The boutique will mark Dougherty's first significant outdoor installation, and will be available for public viewing until January 2008.
