For better or for worse, the Borat film has stirred up an interest in the former-Soviet nation of Kazakhstan. But putting Borat aside, I was surprised to read that Kazakhstan just hosted its own Fashion Week. Bryant Park it was not, but the three-day long exhibition of summer collections held in Almaty did have a cosmopolitan flair. In addition to Kazakhstan's own superstar designers, there were also designers on hand from 10 other nations. The biggest name was Azerbaijani designer Mrs. Fakhriya Khalafova. Khalafova displayed her Azerbaijan traditional clothes for which she received a special award of recognition from the Fashion Week organizers.
