Lindsay Lohan wants us to think that she regularly attends AA meetings. She even wears those sobriety baubles to back up her claims of 12-step programs.

But the truth is that the young actress is partying as wildly as ever. With the period surrounding her recent surgery excluded, Lindsay has all the markings of an unrepentant party girl.

The rehab trend has even caught on in non-famous circles. At AA meetings in metropolitan areas, you're much more likely to see fashionable twenty-somethings in designer clothes than ever before. It's almost as if addiction has become pseudonymous with hip. And that poses the question: is rehab has become the new badge of cool?

I'm not so sure that rehab chic is necessarily a new phenomenon. Addict-musicians like Pete Doherty and Courtney Love have been using the party-problem card as a sign of their rock and roll legitimacy for ages. That having been said, I do think that this phenomenon is a new trend among the young Hollywood set.
