Michael Bloomberg: the shopping addict enabler
Mayor Michael Bloomberg is enigmatic to say the least. More loaded than any one man should be, Bloomberg is rich enough to travel by helicopter, but chooses instead to take the subway. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger in California, Bloomberg has crossed party lines countless times during his tenure in office. One such example of Bloomberg's call 'em like he sees 'em attitude is his recent proposition to repeal New York's 4% clothing tax. If the proposed tax cut is approved, estimates suggest that it could save shoppers $110 million annually. When asked about the proposed change, Bloomberg said, "[it was] To make sure that shoppers and visitors continue to flock to great stores in all five boroughs, we will totally eliminate the city sales tax for all clothing and footwear."
Whether or not Bloomberg's tax cut proposal will go through, one thing is for sure, clothing-tax-free New Jersey retailers are probably already shaking in their shoes!
