I have a confession to make. I am sort of strangely obsessed with Rimmel Cosmetics. It's not the cosmetic that makes it weird. It's weird that I am obsessed with it because Kate Moss is their spokesperson.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that many of their products are dirt cheap.

For the Drugstore Beauty Queen series about foundation, Rimmel was not originally on the list to try because I figured that something so inexpensive would be bad anyway. I don't mind cheap eyeshadows and lip glosses because you can't really go wrong, but foundation is another matter.

I decided to try it anyway because, yes, I am a marketing victim and seeing Kate's face on the Rimmel display looking utterly fabulous swayed me. Rimmel has a few foundations: the Cool Matte Mousse Foundation, Stay Matte Makeup, and another one in a similar squeeze tube as the Stay Matte (can't remember the name). I went for the Cool Matte because I like foundations in pots. They usually tend to be thicker, and therefore, have heavier coverage. Color: Rimmel's other foundations have a wider range of colors, but the Cool Matte Mousse was pretty limited. I was confused by "Ivory" versus "True Ivory," especially siince they looked almost exactly the same in the pot. I took a risk (since there's no tester in the drugstore), and went with Ivory. It's the lightest shade. I lucked out because it matches my skin, though some reviewers have said that the lightest shade is "too orange-y."

Coverage: I expected something rather lightweight since it's called "mousse," but the stuff in the pot is thick. That of course, made me happier, since I prefer heavy coverage. However, when you put it on your face, the thick tecture totally belies it's consistency in the pot. It is mousse-like and goes on very thinly, but oddly enough, not very evenly. I had trouble getting it to not streak across my forehead.

As far as its other claims, "cool" to the touch and lasting 16 hours, only half are true. There really wasn't any cool sensation on my skin when I put it on. That part doesn't bother me, though. Unlike the Revlon ColorStay, it doesn't necessarily not rub off, but I could definitely tell that it did't fade away through the day.
