Keep your shoes shiny with vegetable oil

Nothing says "classy" like a pair of shiny shoes. In fact, even when you're dressing down or trying to look like you're uninterested in your appearance (even though we all know that's not true), a well-kept pair of nice looking shoes can make the difference between an outfit that's rocker chic and one that makes you seem like a slob.

Despite numerous lessons from my father, I actually had no idea how to shine shoes, until I read this. Real Simple magazine has a great post about how to get the job done with nothing more than vegetable oil and a damp cloth. Awesome!

So say goodbye to scuff marks! When it's this easy to get rid of them, there's really no excuse not to.

Another tip to keeping shoes in top condition is : On black shoes, pumps or flats is to after the black goes off the sole sides, take a black permanent marker and go over the sides, and they look as good as new! I have been doing this for years! Ann

Vegetable oil tends to pick up every hint of lint and dust, so I use silicon cleanser/shiner sponges sold near foot care products in many drug and supermarkets. A good buff with the sponge applicator as soon as you get your new shoes home protects them from scuffs. Application takes seconds and makes shoes shine like new every day!
