Kate Moss for TopShop

4/17/2007 4:41PM by Anne Metz

Unprecedented is the only way to describe the anticipation of Kate Moss' designer collection for TopShop. As you know, here at Styledash, we've been reporting on the collaborative minutiae for going on six months now.

So it shouldn't have been a surprise then that once we got around to seeing the collection, there seemed to be a collective sigh of disappointment on the web. While Moss set out to create a fashion-forward line of affordable garbs that would allow your average woman on the street to have her own little piece of her supermodel fabulousness that wasn't what she created. Instead of offering the rest of us mere mortals a wearable version of the fabulous look and life of Kate Moss (all the clothes look like stuff Kate wears), we've been tossed self-indulgent versions of duds that would make the average woman cringe at her own reflection. (Mini-vests? Asymmetrical white poofy sundresses? See-through flapper cocktail frocks? UGH!)

If fashion is about creating clothes for women then it's worth asking -- how is it possible that someone like Kate Moss knows so little about it?
