Poking fun at actor Richard Gere is about as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. He makes for great fodder -- even if you avoiding mentioning the gerbils.
The latest gaffe in the notorious career of Richard Gere involves a Bollywood starlet, an anti-AIDS rally and one culturally inappropriate mouth-to-mouth assault. On Wednesday, three lawyers filed complaints against Gere for a highly publicized smooch on Bollywood starlet Shilpa Shetty. The legal papers accuse the actor of committing an "obscene act" -- public displays of affections are extremely taboo in Indian society. His unwelcome kiss has infuriated citizens, who have staged demonstrations and burned Richard Gere effigies in protest.
One might say that this is just another case of different strokes for different folks, but I tell you what, if Richard Gere tried to pull that move with me, I would have reacted just like poor Shilpa Shetty. (Is that face not worth 1000 words?)
