Bye-bye belly buttons

Young Hollywood can often dictate trends even if they are absurd and ridiculous. Case in point -- former OC starlet Mischa Barton looking like a crazed soccer mom in these high-waisted jeans. High-waisted pants have been trying to nudge themselves back into the spotlight for quite some time with a minor success last year with the high-waisted trousers... the jeans, however, try as they might, continue to flop.

Leave it to out-of-work actress Mischa Barton to wake the dead and go out in public sporting a pair. My theory is that since Mischa has nothing better to do she took the "job" of promoting ugly jeans. The result; these jeans designed by Ditto (and their uglier sister in red) are being sold at L.A. boutique Lisa Kline.

We can only hope this trend doesn't catch on. What do we think, a denim do or a denim don't?

Who gets to dictate what is ugly? Whoever you are, you do not dictate my wardrobe. I love these jeans, compared to all the muffin-top jeans that are overused and overrated. Isn't it time for a pendulum shift? Or perhaps you like seeing all those belly buttons and muffin tops.

I agree with Gayle. I don't get what's so sexy about exposed midriff bulge and tacky lower-back tatoos. Hip huggers do nothing to show off a woman's figure. The only practical thing about hip-huggers is that the exposed tatoo warns potential mates of their risk of contracting Hepatitis C. As many as 30% of those with tatoos are carriers and they don't even know it. Wow, what a fashion statement! Might as well walk around with a needle sticking out of your arm and a sign saying "I may also carry HIV." How attractive. J. Woodson, R.N.

I LOVE those high-waisted jeans and I think she looked darling. I bought a few pair. I am so very tired of seeing so much blubber hanging over the top of all those low-rise pants. Next time you take a stroll though your favorite mall, just check 'em out. Hey, they look good on some of the chicks, but for the rest of the 85% just forget it.

How refreshing, no more fat girls trying to look skinny with their guts hanging out and their extreme inner belly buttons showing in the Brittany pants.

How refreshing, maybe this is the end of overweight women and teenage girls exposing their fat and their super inner navels. I find it disgusting.

I am sick of those low riding, pubic-showing jeans that only supermodels and anorexic (sp) teens can wear. What about normal people? Its about time normal people had a chance to look good. Noone wants to see my belly fat hanging over the top of my jeans! Get real people-- there are very few women who are comfortable in the latest low-rise fashions-- not everyone wants to look like a tramp.

since everyone who commented said they like the high-waisted pants, i`ll share my opinion. i absolutley hate them. this could be because i`m probably much younger than everyone who commented, but i don`t care.
the high waisted pants do look good on some people, but very few.
however, girls with a fat tummy should not wear low rise pants, and the pants should NEVER be SO low that your underwear/ass crack is exposed- that`s just disgusting. but it also doesn`t mean your pants need to go all the way up to your belly button.
if you have a fat tummy, wear the high waisted pants but please, wear a long shirt that covers the waist. it looks much better.
now low rise pants like i wear, just an inch or 2 below the belly button are very flattering to me.
pants that go above your belly button are ridiculous and make you look like an old person- to me and most teenagers anyway.
and to "mom", why don`t you 'get real'? not everyone who wears low rise pants looks like a tramp!
you people obviously live in low class, white trash towns if girls are walking around with their belly flab and ass cracks hanging out. please be aware that not all low riders are like this.

I hope that Lauren doesn't think she is really right about this - just look at ALL of the other postings..........At last, no more fat slobs with their ugly navels and blubber hanging out of their near the "pubics" jeans! Nothing less sexy and more disgusting than fatsos wearing sexy clothes!

and just 1 more comment...
a person`s body isn`t being exposed just because their pants don`t go up so high that the zipper is getting caught on their arm pit hair, there is another article of clothing called the SHIRT!
don`t blame it on the pants, blame it on the short shirt that exposes the tummy. your shirt should always meet the TOP of your pants at least, and your pants should never ever be so low that your ass crack is hanging out, as i said before.
an inch or an inch and a half below the belly button is perfect. WITH a shirt that meets the top of your pants.
you can still look classy and be fully covered in low rise pants!

Well to all tht donot know about these high waisted jeans. You have to have the small waiset and the long legs for them to even draw the right kind of attention. Now if you are short donnot even go there they will draw the wrong kind of attention and rude comments. for one tht has the small waiste and those long legs they really look good, show off the figure more than you would ever think. So remember if you are tall and lean and have the small waiste then they are for you. The straight legs are the better choice, they donot look good on anyone with the other kind of bottom cut.

I have several pairs of high waisted jeans and dress pants that I have worn for years as I love vintage clothes...I get many genuine compliments on them...the reason why people dont like the look of them on young hollywood celebrities is because they are wearing the entirely wrong style/lengthe of tops...get a clue....when talking about shape and proportion u must balance the top withe the bottom, much like one miust with body shape..if u are wearing a high waisted, wide legged, long length pant of a heavier material such as denim,...you should balance it with a shorter length shirt, to or just below the waistband and should not be formfitting, and also made of a lightweight, shear, or delicate material (not like that horrid tight, tucked in mock turtle neck jessica simson was seen wearing with them, or that bulky tucked in rock -tshirt on mischa barton wore) seriously, who are their stylists?????

I agree, the lenght of the top is as important as the waistline of the pants for flaunting the belly button

ut I enjoy a girl that wiggles her hips while she walks by with her belly button jiggling because there is no other reason for her to due this than to get a man's attention

But I will get many letters saying this is just fashion

About as fashionable as me walking around with my pants unzipped

Sincerely Jer

Oh my God Lauren, do not compare high-wasted trousers to "soccer mom" jeans! High-waisted trousers, if worn and made correctly, look nothing like mom jeans. THESE are mom jeans : http://www.chrisabraham.com/mom-jeans.jpg . They're ill-fitting, usually stone-washed, and taper at the bottom. Nothing like Misha's.
I like this trend, along with nearly everyone else whose posted on here. They're so much more flattering than the skinny jean trend.
