But it's his previous role in public office, as mayor of Paris from 1977 until 1995 that has come in to the spotlight in France. On Thursday, the former president was found guilty of abuse of power and embezzlement during that period. The magistrates court handed him a suspended two year jail sentence. Chirac, now 79, was not present for the ruling due to ill health.

Hopefully these spoiled rich kids will learn a lesson and really think twice about doing it again, everything to them is funny, it won't be funny or a joke when they actually kill or hurt someone, then some of us won't feel bad for this brat, all I can say is you have a chance now to show me and others that you can change, and for those who love her its not hate or jealousy towards her and others like her it just we all know if it was me or you with no money we would be in the slammer but because rich and famous they think they are above all the rest, I think its about time they teach them all a lesson............

I am so sick of Paris. Paris admits that she plays dumb! What? If it was anyone else, some regular Dick or Jane we would be outraged that the could hurt our mothers, sisters, brothers, fathers, uncles, aunts or BFF's. Not Paris, we are encouraging her outrages behavior. DUI, drugs and showing her cha cha....yea she deserves our concern because she's in jail. Keep her there and teach her a lesson! Nope we follow her and amke her richer!! Good old US of A!

The world of the rich and famous have had breaks for along time now. Paris thinks a few days in jail is just about the worse thing that can happen to her . I had a cousin that was killed by a drunk driver . His girlfriend was killed as well . If she was involved in a situation like that I cant help but wonder what she would think of the punishment to fit that crime . To me there is no time in jail long enough . It is not an accident . They choose to drink or do drugs and they choose to get into a car and they choose to drive . Nothing about any of that is an accident . I would suspend her license for 5 years and if she gets caught again driving I would make her do the 5 years in the slammer . As long as she wasnt under the influence . Then I would have her sent up for attempted murder .

One more thing , I would not buy anything that would promote her . By me buying anything of hers would send a message that what she did was OK and that would be sending the wrong message to our children . That is the problem with us . If Paris is making a fortune off of this experence then it is because we are a sick nation .

this is the dumbest person in the world after britney spears but thats another story, i am glad she spent those days in jail instead of spending that time making other sex tapes in her mansion....lol....i dont know why those filthy rich folks dont find a chauffeur to drive them when they get trashed...Paris welcome to the life of us middle class, u lucky u got that brake!

The day of Paris Hiltons famous arrest there were 4 soldiers kidnapped and killed in Iraq, breaking news was NOT shown for them. However, millions spend time watching their tv set with the pondering question 'what will happen next to Paris Hilton?' Who cares.

Paris deserves to go to jail. Just because she's famous doesn't mean she deserves special treatment. If she was anyother reagular person they would of sentenced her to jail to question. It's time Paris faces the REAL WORLD.

Is this the role model you want for your children?
A suicidal, pill popping porn star and complete IDIOT?
This story has been shouted at everyone for weeks, its crazy that a spoiled rich girl with no talent can make top news for drunk driving. Did she think about who she could have injured/killed when she went to jail? and people SUPPORT it?! Did i miss something??

I don't feel sorry for Paris at all. My nephew was driving without a drivers licence, because noone else in the car wanted to drive when the owner said she was to sleepy to drive anymore. He did, and there was a n accident, snow & icy roads. He is serving up 4 years, if he is good he may get out after a year.
To me Paris should go visit Joe Apieo (sp) in Phx. THen she can cry it's too difficult. At least he has her colors! PINK. He also has a chaingang for women and no special priveiliges.
Go JOE!

you know, honestly...i completely and whole-heartedly agree with Christa, whose comment was number one, by the way. that kind of thing just boggles my damn mind. covering paris hilton's arrest, and not the people who are fighting to keep this country free...wow, makes you wonder where's the media's mind is...and i can personally take one guess......"think dark side of the moon".

Is Paris Hiltion being sentenced to 45 days in jail the worse thing that could have happened to her? NO, not by a long shot. That being said, I have to say that this sentence was harsh, even considering that she was given other chances. Now I am not even a fan of Paris at all. The thing is that I work as a Paralegal and I see cases like this all of the time. I have never seen a judge sentence anyone to 45 days for this same type of situation.

In fact, I know of a case that is very similar to Paris's. The only difference was the wreckless driving charge was not due to drinking alcohol, but the driver was high on Xtasy when pulled over. She then had her license suspended and was put on probation. She was caught driving on the suspended license two times. She was then sentenced to 30 days in jail, but was released in less than 24 hours. NO reason for the release was given and we knew she would be released very quickly because that is what normally happens.

If Paris Hiltion was not famous she would have been released in the same amount of time she was released if not sooner. The judge would not have even known nor cared about it. This happens all of the time with regular people, so no one can say that Paris is being treated better than the normal person.

I admit that I felt a little happy hearing that she would have to face some jail time, because she is spoiled. That being said, she has spent more time in jail than any normal person would have.

This is madness. I'm not into the media but i can't avoid hearing people bitch about Paris Hilton. She is human, she shouln't get any special attentions just because she is rich. Get a life, go out and have fun, and stop caring about what Pris Hilton does. Some people should really start paying more attention to them selfs and stop paying attention to Paris Hilton.

she is only doing 40 something days, she could have killed some one.
She needs to wake up and realize that lfe isnt one big joke.

What I don't get is what makes her so special that she gets out of jail sooner. I mean just because she is a celebrity doesn't make her above the jail. If lil kim and those other people had to go to jail so does she. I mean just think if she would've killed someone one while she was driving, then what would they give her, a slap on the wrist and tell her not to do it again??
