An evening of scent with Chandler Burr
If you read "The Emperor of Scent" then you know of the wonderfully scent-obsessed Chandler Burr, who is also scent critic for the New York Times style magazine, T. Burr is hosting a dinner that focuses on the world of scent on June 18th at The Carlyle in New York City as part of a series of events put on by Rosewood Hotels. The event centers on a six-course Scent Dinner, pairing perfumes with dishes to highlight culinary essences found in chosen fragrances. The evening begins with smelling perfume raw materials such as essence of Sicilian lemon and Granny Smith apple accord, scents behind the perfume Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana. The aperitif, created by The Carlyle's new mixologist, Brian Van Flandern, is a Light Blue vodka martini, mixed with natural flavors to echo the lemon and apple essence in the fragrance. The bread is paired with a perfume that has the scent of baking flour and the following courses are matched with scents, winding up with a vanilla rum milkshake paired with Tom Ford's Black Orchid and Missoni's new scent matched with a dark chocolate brownie. The dinner costs $200 per person. [via Blogdorf Goodman]
