Disney plans fragrances for preteen boys

Do preteen boys need fragrances? Disney thinks so. They are creating 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and Buzz Lightyear-branded fragrances which are aimed at boys ages 4-11 in Latin communities. Brandweek reports that the new products will be be available in Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target, Duane Reade, Fred Meyer and Longs Drugs stores in areas with large Hispanic populations.

The Disney-branded items will sell for $9.95 and $19.95 and they will be targeting mothers and grandmothers for holiday gift giving. According to the article, U.S. males are slower to get into fragrances than European, Latin and South American boys so the Disney fragrances are expected to give them a push. Baby colognes for both boys and girls are already an established part of European and Latin culture.

Boys here wear Axe and Tag already, My 9 year old son begged me for some because other boys had it. Go into almost any 5th grade class and that is all you smell!

There's enough Axe going around in elementary and middle schools; you can barely breathe when you walk into the hall! All the boys think they need to keep some in their lockers and spray themselves while the girls are all walking by. But instead of the girls swooning and throwing themselves at them, they stumble past, choking. They don't need anything else. But if it MUST be made, at least don't make it strong and deadly.

I THINK TARGETING CHILDREN ALL THE TIME WITH THIS STUPID MARKETING CRAP JUST TO MAKE MORE MONEY IS JUST RETARDED! LET BOYS BE BOYS AND PLAY, GET DIRTY! WE DON'T NEED BOYS PRIMPING LIKE GIRLS! HOW MUCH MORE MONEY DOES DISNEY NEED TO MAKE TO BE SATISFIED!

Well Crystal not all boys like to get dirty, some enjoy primping. I don't think you get to determine the actions of the entire male population, especially since you're a woman.

Can someone please tell me what this country is doing? Its bad enough we have our female children dressing and looking like ho's at a very young age. Now we are asking for our boys to grow up quicker too?

I started with prefered stock by stetson when I was around 11 years old, then it went to Calvin Klein that was what all the boys were wearing in my school. then it went to axe, bod, and tag. Boys will play in the mud outside of school, but in the school yard, classroom, and dance, guys are becoming more aware of hygiene, and grooming now more then ever before, I dont think its such a bad Idea, just when they start shaving at 12-15 teach them that a little goes a long way, the new smelly kid isnt the one with the pubecent body odor, but the one with the bottle in his back pack.

LOL Linda! Since when do "classy, discreet people" call folks "ho's" and "idiots"?

Its called supply and demand. No one is *asking* the boys to grow up quicker, the boys are *asking* for fragrance. I agree its time for someone to make a boys fragrance that isn't so powerful. My 8 year old is wanting deoderant and cologne and the men's stuff that is out there is just TOO overpowering.

I have both girls and a boy, and it is my own personal opinion that like Linda has stated our girls are growing up faster than need be, by the styles of clothing that are being displayed in the stores. So, in that respect I couldn't agree more. Now in regards to the boys wearing the various fragrances for boys, could it be the fact that as girls where make-up to help build their self-esteem and it just makes them feel better about themselves, that it could possibly the same thing with the young boys. I am not saying its right or wrong, but just offering another possibility. I think it is just matter of what the parents feel comfortable with, and what consequences they can live with by allowing their children to dress in certain ways and by doing certain things. Again, this is MY personal opinion and I am not trying to push my opinions onto anyone else. :-)

Teens need to know how to shower, and how much perfume to use. To much perfume is extremly offensive and can make asthma worse. It is considered a chemical and should be regulated. I think whoever came up with the idea should become more educationally aware of how many chemicals go into a bottle of perfume and which chemicals are considered safe. Many chemicals are considered unsafe and should be brought to peoples attention. -DeeDee Thompson from Albany NY

Strong perfume is like smoking except people seem to be less aware about how perfumes effect peoples health.

It's so socially destructive that kids are being made into adults way too early nowadays.
The fallout from this will not be socially conducive in any way in the near future.
