Can Todd Oldham save Old Navy?

9/25/2007 11:27AM by Lauren Messiah

todd oldhamOld Navy is known for whacky commercials and affordable fashions, but lately we haven't heard much about the bargain retailer. It seems that Old Navy has slipped into a fashion slump. The slump has been attributed to poor store merchandising and not-so-great products.

Perhaps a big designer name, like Todd Oldham, can save them. The Gap, Old Navy's parent company, has announced that they have hired Todd Oldham as their creative director, effective October 1. Oldham will be spending his time at the Old Navy/ Gap headquarters located in New York and San Francisco.

What will Todd Oldham do to save Old Navy? For starters he will launch his own line (under his name) to be sold exclusively at Old Navy.

I am weary about Todd's ability to "save" Old Navy; he has kind of been a fashion whore lately, designing for Lazy Boy furniture and Target. To me Oldham has jumped the shark and is taking Old Navy along for the ride.
