Tyra tries the boho look and fails

tyra banks in leggingsNote to Tyra: You are not a Hollywood starlet. I repeat you are not a Hollywood starlet. You may be a Hollywood star but you are no starlet.

For some odd reason Tyra banks felt that it was okay to dress like a girl ten years her junior and half her size. Now before you all jump down my throat (which I know you will do anyway), there is nothing wrong with Tyra's size. There is, however, something wrong with what she decided to wear for her size.

Leggings aren't for everyone (everyone should know that by now). Leggings are to be worn with a top that covers your near end, like a tunic or a mini dress. Tyra has failed to do that by opting for a shirt that barely covers her stomach. The second issue I have with the leggings is that they are barely leggings. In fact, they look like tights to me. Am I alone here? I can practically see through them.

Leaving the leggings alone for a moment -- the boho look? Even the real Hollywood starlets have started to abandon that look. Tyra it's time to start dressing like the powerful Hollywood star that you are. You have your own talk show and a popular (ish) television program; you're better than this Tyra. I know you are.

I will agree that Tyra's look is not appealing to most...but let me illustrate that "anyone" can wear what they want.. when they want... and where they want. This is America, not some communist country. To chastise her because her look does not appeal to you is inconsiderate and very petty...I do not care for her over the top personality and drama effect but she has a "real" body now.. not some Hollywood anorexic stick figure that you all seem to think we should posses. If you don't like the lady state that not attack something so petty as her clothing... No she will never be Oprah because of her personality and that phony act she puts on..but come on now. "Let it go"

Lez, I'm not sure that you get the point of the article. It's a style critique; it's clear that the author isn't necessarily pro-Tyra, but the focus is on what looks classy or trendy rather than unappealing. Tyra's career has been mainly fashion-based, so it's also not petty to be discussing such things as FASHION if it's where she's made her fortune. By saying that the author knows better than to wear an ensemble like this, I think that she is actually complimenting the fact that Tyra does have style and simply made a misstep in this case. She also stated directly that there is nothing wrong with Tyra's size; just that some can get away with leggings, while others (such as myself -- and I'm not big, just not made for the style) can't. Don't take such offense.

Let me just state that being thin is not a crime. In fact, being (as you might say, Lez,) "normal" is not a crime. Being severely overweight isn't even a crime, though it is very detrimental to one's health and, therefore, not a smart choice if one wants to live a long and healthy life. I am, therefore, sick of people looking down on being thin. People who criticize being thin usually do so because they want to defend being overweight, but in reality those individuals are simply hypocrites in that they are doing the same action that they are defending against. Criticizing someone's weight is hurtful whether that someone is "skinny" or "fat." In addition, saying someone's weight is "normal" or "real" implies that everyone should possess that singular weight. It also implies that there even IS a perfect weight, a standard to which all individuals should aspire to achieve, when there really isn't such a thing. So next time, Lez, think before you call someone's weight "real." (As if anyone else's were fake...)

That said, people should dress in a manner that is appropriate to their shape and age. I see forty-year-old women wearing mini-skirts and tank tops when I should really only see that on teenagers and young adults such as myself. I also see people wearing items of clothing that are two sizes too small for their shape, causing rolls they wouldn't necessarily have to spill over their waist line, out of their sleeves (if they have any) and over the neck/chest line. If these people so desperately want to wear particular sizes, then they should be proactive and exercise OR (there's a concept here, so pay attention) they should accept who they are and love themselves no matter what.

Happy New Year.

This is not really a lot to actually do with Tyra, her outfit, or the article. But when you think about it, Life is just too damn short.

When Tyra dies, is it going to be important or in any way relevant that Tyra made a mistake in wearing the wrong shirt with her leggings? Looking stylish is a big part of society today, and there is nothing wrong with that. But when we think about it, when we are lying on our deathbeds, thinking about the things we regret and wish we could take back...is it really going to be an ensemble choice? Because I know that's not what I hope to be thinking about. Tyra can wear whatever she like as far as I'm concerned...There is no need to pick on her just because what she decided to wear isn't considered by the high and mighty minds of the media "IN" and "FASHIONABLE".

If photographers followed you around everywhere you go, I guarantee they would find at least one outfit that isn't considered chic. Tyra could be boarding a plane or running to a gas station, and there isn't any need to take a lot of time in looking for that.

All... allow me to state that I am aware this was a fashion article and critique but like "Amy" stated ... will what she wore on that day really matter on her death bed.. (uhhh NO) and as for weight issues... that can be an issue big or small but look in the mags... what is the ratio of "real" women represented to "not so realistic looking" women... if I may add... not many... unless you are looking at a specific type of mag... if you look on the street realistic or average women are more so represented in society then what is shown in magazines.. that is just a known fact... so do not think it is insensitive of me to state so.
