Now that 2007 is quickly coming to an end, it's time to cast your eyes on 2008 -- after all, you don't want to suddenly find yourself stuck with a closet full of last year's looks!

According to Fortune magazine, there are five big trends to keep your eye on next year. I wouldn't normally turn to Fortune for my fashion advice -- it's a financial publication, after all -- but their picks makes sense. Grown-up, sophisticated, and right where mainstream style has been headed ever since we dumped that 80s resurgence once and for all.

Here's what you'll need in the New Year:

5 Fashion Trends for 2008

I love sheer clothing and always have. I like wearing really comfortable camisoles under lacy sheer clothing....so sexy and yet you are showing nothing. Old Navy has the best camsioles and I just bought 4 new ones at $5 each. They have a tan one that comes in a fab-u-lous color.

I buy most of my stuff at an online shopping mall that gives me between 5-55% back in cash on all my purchases. There are over 1000 stores including Old Navy, Sephora, Apple, The Gap, Target (great for soo much), Macy's. I also wait for sales so I get my cash back and the lowest price
http://www.dailyoink.com The site is ugly, but well worth it.

What color is it? I mean...they have one in a fabulous tan color, or they have a fabulous tan colored one...your sentence makes no sense

I shop online at mypowermall.com/Biz/Home/83148 I get paid a % for everything I buy, I watch for free shipping, or I buy online then go pick up my item. there are 1000+ stores and most are close to me. this is the best thing I have ever found

"...you don't want to suddenly find yourself stuck with a closet full of last year's looks!"
OMG. That's why you invest in classic (classy) pieces, instead of buying into all the 5-second fads that aren't even cool by the end of the day. All the "new" trends are just old ideas recycled yet again anyway.

I hope the fashion trend of tattoos goes away soon. Every generation has its bad fashion trends but most of the time, the worst that comes out of them is a few years later, your kids see a picture of you engaging in that trend, they get a good laugh out of it and you get embarrassed.

But with tattoos, you're generally stuck with them, barring expensive laser surgery, which I've even heard doesn't completely get rid of them.

My guess is that about 98% of people who get tattoos do so just because it's trendy and give no thought to how they'll like the tattoos 20 years from now. I think in that time, there will be millions of people who are embarrassed of their tattoos; particularly those with tattoos on their hands, neck and faces.

I sure would never get one - and I'm a rock music recording artist!

What a lot of these 20-somethings forget about when getting tattoos is the very basic concept of gravity. That really "awesome looking" tat is not going to look so awesome when gravity, stretch marks, and age set in. I'm a dance instructor at a very popular dance club in a major US city, and I've seen just about everything under the sun regarding how people dress -- you wouldn't believe the girls who get these HUUUUUUGE tats on their backs, arms, decolletage, etc... I just want to ask them what they're going to do about that when they want to wear a strapless wedding gown, a backless dress, or when they go on a job interview.

Final word on tats, folks, is that if you're gonna get one, make sure it can be covered because YOU WILL have to cover it up at some point. And remember that what looks "really awesome" at 20 is not going to look quite so awesome at 50. You're just going to look like some middle-aged person with a really bad tat that is sagging, wrinkled, and looks nothing like what it was originally supposed to be.

Eh, I think I'll stick with my jeans, t-shirts, and hooded sweatshirts.

None of these trends, except maybe the "rubber" whatever trench coat are new. I like my nice designer sneakers, my sheer shirt, and my scarf. Maybe hanging out in a clothing boutique can be considered a new trend, if you are reading a book and grabbing coffee. But this is also somewhat old, I remember when I was a child there was some coffee counters in clothing store my mom would take me to.

I couldn't care less about the fashion "must haves" of the new year. If you have good, stylish, basic clothes in your wardrobe, they are always in style. I can't stand these little tight-fitting, baby shirts that are so popular. They look so stupid.

wow.

Those are the most boring "Oh hi, I'm stuck in 1998" articles of clothing I have had the displeasure of seeing in a looooong time. Fashion is about taking risks and moving forward, not going back to a neutral, safe period from the latter half of the previous decade or the early 2000s. Absolute unimaginative rubbish.

Sheer clothing?! Do we really need to give people more of an eyeful? Why not just go naked! (oh yeah that's against the law-this is a nice way around it!) Oh, no I wasn't trying to get attention-I just like teasing the heck out of you! It was distasteful before-honestly-sheer belongs at home. Classy women should dress appropriately-or the wrong messages are being sent. Haven't we learned this one before?!

I am 68 yrs young and a good example is the pointed toe pumps that I threw away relieved that I didnt have to wear them again , sheesh they much have found their way in the recycle bin and sent back to the stores , but seriously , I have gotten rid of so many nice things that I should have waited a couple more years, though I do have some clothes that are back in style and they are mostly better clothes and not fads.

I agree with Heather. I love my sneakers, a good fitting pair of jeans, a white tee or good looking top. That is all one really needs. Except when dressing up of course.
You can go literally anywhere in the above mentioned outfit. I hate capri's!!! They make women look so awful. Especially if you are short to begin with. Only tall women should wear them.

I agree with Heather also and I am 49 soon to be 50. Since the 60's jeans and tshirts are here to stay, and I have been wearing them and a hooded sweatshirt and sneakers since I was 15 and don't intend to stop.

Wow, I am glad you are a jean and sneaker person too. In the summer months, I hate seeing everyone in just sandals all the time. It almost makes you feel stupid to have on a pair of sneakers. But, I am in mine all summer long, regardless.

I think these necklaces are going to be a new trend www.thelittlefriends.com They are so cute and socially concious! Some of the necklaces give money to good causes when you purchase them. That's always in style. Check them out they are cheap and make great Christmas presents. Oh, and they come in a cute little jewelry bag ready to give! www.thelittlefriends.com
