Drugstore Beauty Queen: Rimmel white eyeliner

Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil, Pure White
For about $3 you can have bigger, brighter eyes -- no fooling (and no surgery required). By picking up a white eyeliner pencil at your local drugstore and inner rims of your eyes can look larger.

My Mom had been telling me this particular beauty secret for years. Perhaps it was the rebellious teen in me but I ignored her and went on smearing black liner on my inner rims . Now that I am an adult I have decided to embrace my Mother's beauty secrets. I picked up this $3 white pencil by Rimmel London and lined my lower lid. The results ah-mazing! Having just that touch of white on your inner rims adds an extra 1/8 to your eye.

The Rimmel pencil is great, the application is smooth and gentle so it doesn't hurt that delicate part of your eye. You really can't beat the price too and in this case I think paying anymore than $3 is absolutely ridiculous.

Do you still apply black eye liner or just the white?

I've tried it over the years but It makes me look a bit scary. Marie Osmond did it for a magazine cover shoot recently and I felt it made her look a bit scary too. I do like Carmindy's trick of the light shadow at the tear ducts. That brightens you up without looking too dramatic.

I completely agree - I end up looking like something failed from America's Next Top Model. I'm an art student, so I do know how to control colour and pencils, etc., and even with that background I just don't do a good job on myself, either. Good trick about the white eyeshadow. I do that, too!

This was a popular thing to do in the 60's and 70's. Also instead of using white, pale blue is also very becoming on this part of the eyes. Everything old is new again!

I used a white eyeliner for the first time at a party last week. It really does make your eyes pop. Check out eyeliners at www.youravon.com/apelletier

I have tried everything the experts proposed to make my eyes look brighter. I finally asked a woman I met at the cosmetics counter of an upscale store, who must have been over 80 or thereabouts, how she kept her skin so lovely and her eyes so sparkly. She said she wore colored no prescription contacts in a shade darker than her natural eye color and she slathered on Noxema in the summer, and plain old vaseline in the winter. She was purchasing perfume that day. What an eyeopener!

Marge,Did the lady leave the Noxzema on all day as a moisturizer,or just wash with it? Also same apply's for the Vaseline, did she leave it on all day?I'm more interested in the question about the Noxzema,I've been washing with it for years with a buff puff.I'm 43 now and started when I was 13,people are always telling me my skin is so smooth looking.

These beauty tricks are always appreciated. I love using a pearl white eyeliner and Chanel pink eyeshadow which makes your eyes look fresh and young. A tiny stoke of white pearlized eyeshadow right below the eyebrow line is also a lovely way to lift and enhance your eyes. Thanks.

I have never been a fan of black eyeliner. It doesn't work for 95% of the women who wear it, making their eyes look smaller, not larger. I wore white liner in the early 70's, with a light brown on my lids, and looked good without over doing it. I still get compliments on my beautiful eyes, even my daughter took makeup pointers from me when she was a teenager, and she never listened to me otherwise. Best makeup tip, don't over do it! The pictures in the magazines are overdone so you will see the makeup, not the girl wearing it. That's not what we want in real life.

ive been doing that for many years with stark white eye shadow on the lid, then blending with what ever colors, leaving just the thin white strip along my lids and undereye

I was a model many years ago and have another tip for those of us with thin eyelashes or those who may want even thicker looking lashes. Before putting on your mascara, brush your eyelid and lashes with just a smidge of your foundation-setting powder. Don't overdo it or you'll have glop. The powder creates more width or body to the lash similar to a body-enhancing shampoo for your hair. Remember to never pump your mascara which adds air and ages it much more quickly, all you have to do is swirl the brush around before pulling it out.

Another tip for ladies with large eyes who want to make them appear a little smaller...apply a lighter color eye shadow on the inner part of your eyelid with a darker color blended from the middle to the outer corner. Then use just a touch of highlight above, underneath your brow. To give a more subtle touch to your eyes, for daytime wear, use the same dark color shadow as eyeliner under your lower lashes.

Have a beautiful day!

I started using a product called Revitalash and my eyelashes
are amazingly thicker and longer! I got it from my dermatologist
(Bella skin institute) and it goes on like a liquid eyeliner. It also works on eyebrows...they are thicker, too.

THAT IS A NEAT TRICK BUT NOT TO NEAT IF THE PERSON APPLYING MAKE-UP HAST A PROMINENT NOSE. THE EYE MAKE UP DRAWS ATTENTION TO THE BIG NOSE...THE RESULT IS NOT DESIERABLE.

Hi Shirley...I, too, have a more than I want in a nose. I use a Q-tip to apply eye shadow to the sides of my nose. The color is just a shade or two darker than my foundation base. Eye shadows come in so many colors, so you can experiment with the color. Use very light touch and blend. I have a bulb on the end of my nose as well. I use this trick on the outside flairs of this bulb to make it look a little more slight. Then I very carefully use a very, very light shade of cheek blush to the very top ridge of my nose to make it look healthy and brighter. Remember to use all of this with very light touch. And practice. It really does help.

I will be 50 years old in April. I have no lines or wrinkles on my skin. In fact, I don't even have laugh lines. All I ever use is a little lotion on my face every night and every morning. My favorite is shea butter. Most of the time, the only make up I use is a little mascara and lip gloss. I really believe that less is more.

Forget about all of that makeup and have your eyeliner, eyebrows and lips done permently by a cosmetician. It never washes off and is always uniform. You wake up in the morning put a little face makeup, shadow and mascara and you're done.

I suppose that permanent make-up might look good for a few years. But later in life, when things start to sag....uh oh....not so good.
