Wonder of all wonders: Maidenform launches completely backless bra!

I don't know about you but I have not had good luck with strapless, backless, bra contraptions in the past. They are always falling off and sliding down. Straps slip and things pop out where they shouldn't be popping out. So when it comes to supporting my girls, I tend to stick to the conventional. Give me a plain old fashion under wire bra any day!

But never fear, bra expert Maidenform is here! Their new Breakthrough Backless Bra looks seriously promising. It doesn't have tacky clear plastic straps. But it does have straps, they're just not conventional. The only thing this bra is lacking is the band that goes all the way around your chest.

This bra was invented by single mom, Elaine Cato, and showcased on the show American Inventor. To learn more, keep reading.

I think I'm definitely going to have to try this. The website gives a description, saying, "The Breakthrough™ Backless Bra is expertly crafted with silicone on the wire channeling to prevent slippage. The seamless molded foam cups provide a natural shape on the body and are smooth under clothes."

For just $25.00 you can buy it on the Maidenform website. The sizes run from 34B up to a 38DD. It comes in black or beige. If anyone reading this has already tried this bra leave a comment and tell us how it works. Is there truly no slippage? If that's true, this bra might replace the push up as a staple in every woman's under garment wardrobe.

To see more bras that will fit under different cuts of shirts and tops when a regular bra just won't cut it, browse through the gallery.

It looks like it would be fine for smaller sizes, but I bet it would continually slide off the shoulder of any woman who is a C cup or larger. I imagine it would be like walking around with your bra unhooked. Worth trying on though.

I saw this bra for the first time on TV ( on American Inventors), and was wating for it be made public.

You are saying that this bra might be best for women with a smaller bust, but the women that invented the bra had a large bust and she was wearing the bra (her invention) on the show while making her presentaion to the panel and she looked like she was comfortable and well supported.

I think this women deserves all the best, her bra is going to make plenty of women happy, and fashion designers even happier.

I just cannot get my head around how this would actually function properly. How would you move without it slipping? I need to see/try one.

I just received mine and wore it this week end. I am a size 34D. It looks so fabulous and it is just what I needed. I have tried everything. I can not say it will give me support if I was going to run a mile but for an evening out it was better than I anticipated. I'd say it is the best bra out of it's kind as far as I am concerned.

i just got mine...I'm a 36C according to both what i consider my normal bra size and what the website calculated for me. It doesn't like to stay put by itself AT all...my breasts seem to want to slip out from underneath if left free. However, if i was wearing a tight dress or shirt which would keep the front in place, i think it's a great resource for (if not solution to) the problem of a backless top. The shaping is nice, and although i have a little bit of bra-edge-sticking-up action (like you have if you have a too-ig cup size...because my boobs slide down and thus don't fill it out fully) if i held the cups against my chest with my hand or tape it would be fine. One note: the "invention" seems to be mostly the silicone lining along the inside (which barely touches my chest because my boobs stick out more) and the angle of the straps, which are wider set than a "normal" bra (meaning if you bought this for a tank/halter/strappy dress you're SOL). However, with some dress tape to secure it and the right garment, I think this is a really good idea/invention.

I agree completely with mer when she says that this bra does not "stay put by itself AT all". You almost have to keep your arms at your side to keep it in place. I am a 36B, and I had looked forward to wearing this bra with some backless shirts/blouses that I have. The moment I received it, I tried it on to much frustration. Everytime I tried lifting or moving my arms around, the bra would not stick to my body (via the silicone) and did not keep my girls in check at all underneath. I'm disappointed that I will be returning this; it seemed really promising.

this bra does not work. if you move your shoulders, the bra falls away from your body. the sales associates are actually trained at the store to put fashion tape (glorified double stick tape) on the bra when it doesn't work, and the company is going to make the bras to come with a fashion tape kit in future manufacturing. i'm sorry, but if a bra comes with its own tape to tape it onto your body, then it does not work, and the company is even acknowledging it.
