Indie Designer Interviews: pequitobun
We love all of the amazing independent designers out there. In order to find out more about just what makes all of these creative types tick, we present to you an ongoing segment called Indie Designer Interviews.Today we're pleased to introduce you to Sherry, the designer behind pequitobun, a line of one-of-a-kind romantic jewelry with a twist of whimsy and a little bit of rock-n-roll.
Tell us a little about yourself and your work. I am a Boston-based jewelry designer and I have been designing for almost 3 years. I love everything vintage-dresses, purses, furniture etc. and this is reflected in my jewelry, which melds vintage jewelry pieces with charms, beads and gemstones to form modern pieces with the beauty of the old-fashioned. Many of my pieces are one of a kind, which means that you can be the only person in the world to own a particular handmade design.
How did you get started as a designer? I started when my sister taught me how to do a simple briolette wrap with beads and wire. I then experimented with detailed assemblages of vintage charms and jewelry pieces, and found that people really liked my designs! From then on, I was hooked.
Any advice you would give to aspiring designers? Develop your own personal unique style and don't be afraid to take creative risks! If you want to sell online, clear and eye-catching pictures are a must. What inspires your work? My customers, who are SO great, definitely inspire me to keep working hard to keep creating new designs that excite them. I am also very much inspired by my materials; working with vintage materials, I never know what I might find next, and I usually design around the vintage pieces I find.
Who are your favorite designers? There are so many great indie designers nowadays the scene has definitely exploded. My favourites amongst them include Leanimal and Emma Gordon! Amongst mainstream designers, one of my favourites is Victor and Rolf, I think their designs are so creative, detailed and fun.
What are your top fashion & beauty must-haves? I absolutely cannot walk in heels, so ballet flats are a staple for me. For nights of serious partying, I stock eyelash extensions for my puny lashes.
Where can people find your work? At my new full retail site, www.pequitobun.com.
Anything else? I just want to thank you for spotlighting independent designers, and for the opportunity to share my work with the readers of Styledash!
