Alexander McQueen's creepy necktie/speedo

We deeply respect an individual's right to wear whatever kind of swimsuit they want -- or even their right not to wear one -- but we totally did a double-take when we saw Alexander McQueen's creepy neck-binding men's swimsuit. In fact, we kind of did that thing where you vomit a little in the back of your throat. Some have compared it to Borat's famous over-the-shoulder thong, but honestly -- we think this one is much worse.

The thing about swimsuits is that they are meant to cover only what is deem inappropriate in public. For men, that's usually below the waist (unless they've got an outrageously hairy back). This suit looks more like some kind of kinky dominatrix outfit than something a person would choose to wear. Plus, it seems like it might pose a strangulation hazard if you wore it out on the water. What do you say -- is it really as hideous as we think it is?

Could it be that this suit was designed for women vacationing in Southern France? Maybe this guy was handed it by mistake.

Ugh. Mostly, I am just not digging the indiscreetly-placed strips of nude. The whole thing is a mess of Vile and Creepy, like getting it on with a mannequin. The necktie-speedo thing belongs on straightmenf***ing.com. Or Sprockets. Remember Sprockets?

Ewww. I don't like anything about this. But, designers will put anything in a show if it is bound to draw attention.

Jesus, you people at "style" dash are the most uninformed and poorly fashion educated people I've ever read. Don't you people get out? Is it possible that you ALL come from the Midwest?

Design at the fashion show level is not about what's "pretty" or"wearable" or even "practical"--it's about the IDEAS, the CONCEPTS and taking design to unexpected places. Most people with a pulse realize these things will never be seen in stores, but it's still an expression of the designer's art.

Fashion is politics, it's camp, it's creativity, it's stupidity--it's anything that will inspire and get people talking--good, bad or indifferent. Shame on you all for having such narrow perameters--"That's ugly," or "that's wrong." The designs you disparage got themselves noticed, didnt they?

Some of you really need a better education, or at least, for God's sake, attend a show or two. You might learn something.

Campy, definitely. The final comment--maybe this was made for a French beach girl and the guy got it by mistake--was probably spot-on: It would look better on a French woman at a topless beach (and this is coming from a straight woman who has lived in France). It looks just awful on a guy--even one with decent physique like the runway boy pictured here. He looks like the gimpy boy-toy of a dominatrix.
