How To Do Faux Bob
Faux Bob How To
Women love their long hair: either you've had it forever and are too scared to cut what took a long time to grow out. So what can you do now that the red carpet trend is leaning towards short bobs? Fake it! You didn't think Eva Longoria or Eva Mendes actually chopped their hair off, did you? Follow these 10 steps courtesy of Bumble and Bumble to DIY at home.
Step 1
This style is best created on hair that isn't freshly washed. First, mist dry hair with water to bring out the texture, and apply a small amount of styling lotion for hold. Our favorite pre-styling product: Redken Clear Moisture Instant Polishing Prep
Step 2
Blow dry your hair quickly using your hand and fix the part where you want it. Using hair powder at the roots adds texture and volume and will also help the pins stick in your hair later on. Bumble and bumble's Hair Powder is the only one on the market as far as we're concerned.
Step 3
Use a wide-barrel curling iron to create loose waves section by section throughout your whole head. Leave the ends of your hair out so they look more natural. This 2" barrel iron by Hot Tools will do the trick.
Step 4
Divide hair into two side sections and a back section and mist lightly with hairspray to fix the wave.
Step 5
Divide the back section into top and bottom. At the nape of your neck tease and back comb the hair with a comb -- this will build a base so the pins have something to grip onto. Next, back comb the rest of your hair to take some length off. Any comb will do. Try this 2-pack by Vidal Sasson
Step 6
Take the bottom section and twist hair into a low ponytail, wrap under and then pin in place. When executing a more complicated style on your own head, invest in hair clips to act as spare hands. Aluminum ones by Scunci are stronger than plastic.
Step 7
Let the top section down, twist in the same fashion and curl under, attaching to the base you have created.
Step 8
Tease hair at the crown for a little extra volume. Back comb front sections, twist slightly and pin hair back into the same area by the nape of your neck.
