Judith Leiber is the handbag of choice for the rich

Luxury handbags, how many of us own them? Not many this season if our unfortunate economic crisis has anything to do with. However, not everyone is cutting into their monthly Starbucks stipends to don the finer things in life.

According to the most recent Luxury Institute Survey, the rich are getting richer. And their accessory of choice? Judith Leiber handbags.

1,048 wealthy women, "wealthy" meaning they take in an average of $348k a year and have a average net-worth of $3.5 million, were asked which handbag brands the coveted the most. While Jimmy Choo, Hermes, and Tod's ranked fairly high on their lists, it was Judith Leiber's clutches that are the undisputed favorite amongst the bougie set.

As the survey espouses: "The Judith Leiber brand is rated as much for being a work of art as it is rated a luxury by the only pundits who count -wealthy consumers who can buy the brands. Our impartial surveys are based on the principle that highly educated, discerning luxury consumers have the ultimate expertise and trustworthiness in luxury consumption. The Luxury Institute conducts its research with independent panels, and uses third party analytical firms to tabulate the results so that the true voice of luxury consumers is amplified for the benefit of their peers and industry executives alike."

And now you know. So the next time you have a big red carpet event, choose Judith Leiber, darlings.

Aren't we vain, silly and shallow. What a waste of reading time, money (in the case of buying such an item), and horrid waste of resources better spent elsewhere. Mankind - womankind - we really do need to get a life.

I completely agree. Although it is nice to splurge on ourselves once in a while, don't we have more important things to spend our money on. We so quickly forget how far a dollar (even as weak as it is) can go to get food and medical supplies to those who might not survive tomorrow. It sickens me to think of how selfish we are.

as a husband i would never let my wife spend more than 1500 on a purse. 2000 tops. not a penny more than 2500. a guy has to draw the line somewhere. any more than 2500 is ridiculous. people are starving to death.

everyone else who commented... SHUT UP. get over yourselves. ok people are starving, whatever... whats wrong with a little bit of entertainment? obviously all of you read this article, so you all must be vain and shallow as well. no need to deny people of the little things that may put a smile on their face or give them something interesting to think about (or dream about), just because you are soooo uppity. some people enjoy fashion. whatever you do with your free time is as much a waste of time as this article.

Why does FASHION have to mean money? Do you know who makes these purses? I highly doubt the laborers who actually make this purse are getting paid competitive salaries!

i totally agree with you...
what other people do with their money is NONE of your business. you don't know anything about them, so don't judge.

if i had that kind of money, i would spend it on a judith leiber purse.

stop being so jealous, people.
if you want money to give to the "starving people," work your ass off and then let's see if you do what you claim to do, k?!

Go to the GOODWILL and you can pick up a prada...guiccia coach for $20.00. Thats my style. Then you,ll have money to go into these purses. If I was rich I would not carry a purse.I would have my very own personal banker with me and snap my fingers and say....Billy Boy pay the clerk please.

I more than meet that criteria. And I don't give a shit about buying one of her purses. That is why I laugh about AOL and its "buyers." This isn't "real" at all.

Judith Leiber bags are gorgeous.

Also, as this article says, the women surveyed had an average annual income of $348k and average net worth of $3.5 million. I would venture to guess that many of those women make charitable contributions that exceed most folks 5 figure incomes.... think about it, the 'general rule' is to contribute 10% of one's income to charity, in this case, that means an average annual contribution of $34,800 per year to charity. So folks, my thought is relax, worry about how much _you_ are giving to charity. What may look like a lot to you may be a drop in the bucket to someone else.

And, as for the fellow who wrote in to let us know he does not _allow_ his woman to spend more than a certain amount, I would say to you, sir, sorry honey, I make the money, I'll decide how I'll spend it. You worry about how you spend your own.

Who cares? The Hollywood crowd is a bunch of hypocrits. They claim to vote Democrat and claim to despise Republicans, but don't you know they are voting Republican so the Democrats don't take all their "hard-earned" money in taxes? Why don't they give that money to the poor that they claim to care about? What a joke they are! They make me sick when they speak out for the Democrats. Why don't they just sit down and shut up?!!

I worked selling Judith Leiber handbahs in a Neiman marcus branch for years. Judith Leiber, btw, sold her interest in the company YEARS ago. Selling them entailed having the company-issued tube of glue for the endless quantity of crystals which constantly fell off. the designs haven't been attractive since Ms Leiber retitred.
If you want to drop a few grand for a bag, bypass Chanel (badlymade for years) or Prada (trendy junk.) Invest in a Kieselstein Cord, or, better, an Hermès -- yes it will set you back five grand, but you will have it a long time. Having said that, only a pitiful ego in need of stroking spends money on this crap whenthe American middle class is fast disappearing, and ordinary, hard-working people are losing their homes to foreclosure.

This handbag is a work of ART? Oh, please! Only the insecure and pretentious will tell you that! I'm in favor of anyone doing anything they please with money they earned. Or inherited. But seriously, how can anyone be THIS much of a slave to fashion?
