Why aren't you wearing this? Portolano Petunia Stripe Cashmere Fringe Scarf

9/9/2008 5:54PM by Kristen Seymour

While a striped scarf immediately evokes feeling of school uniform preppiness, when you throw in some bright, unexpected colors, that preppiness gets all mixed up with something else. Punk? Retro? Something else entirely? We're not sure, but what we do know is that we like it.

This Portolano Petunia Strip Cashmere Fringe Scarf, $88 at bluefly.com, is the type of scarf that would work in a variety of ways. Worn with a simple white or neutral top, it would be a little collegiate looking, like we're getting ready to cheer on our favorite football team. And if there was a football team whose colors were hot pink and navy, it would have to be our favorite.

However, tossed on with some other patterns, like a plaid, and some skinny pants would give it total hipster cred. Put it on a boy, along with some other dark colors, to really give him a fashion edge. Or, pair it with something really feminine to give it a cozy touch.
