Twiggy talks about being fab past 40

Twiggy was one of the biggest style icons of the Sixties, but don't think for a second that she's done being fabulous. She turned 59 yesterday (Happy Birthday, Twiggy!), and is working hard to be a role model for mature women.

The former supermodel, who is now the face of Marks & Spencer, says that women can absolutely be fashion forward and fabulous well past their 40th birthdays. She said, "For me, getting older is about harnessing all the things I have learned about what does and doesn't suit me. The 40s onwards are when we can really begin to enjoy ourselves," adding, "Successful dressing is mostly about attitude, having the confidence in what you wear, knowing that it's working for your body."

We think this is great advice, and not just for women of a certain age. Being comfortable and confident in your own skin is the first step to style at any age!

Twiggy looks pretty good, although I think she could use some light plastic surgery such as Botox and a chemical peel or laser for some skin resurfacing to give her a fresher look. I would love to see what Colleen Corby looks like now. She was my favorite model in the 60's and was very popular. She was in 'Teen, Seventeen and catalogs.

To Terri:
Why do women over 40 need Botox? Twiggy looks wonderful and she is almost 60. I hate the way Suzanne Somers looks with all of her homone therapy, surgeries and facial injections. Suzanne Somers looks fake. Twiggy is natural and makes aging look good. Good for you Twiggy!!!!

Twiggy looks terrible. Have you no eyes with which to see? My Lord, I shall never touch scotch, gin or vodka after looking at the mug of the old Twigster.

Terri, your attitude is what's wrong with our society's view of women. Why can't a woman just age? She appears to be pretty happy and confident without plastic surgery.

I think Twiggy looks great and doesn't need any botox or chemicals peels,,,,,,,,,,,whatever happened to respect for growing old gracefully? Is this culture so superficial that beauty is based solely on outward appearances

People like you make me sick.... Botox??? Twiggy is beautiful... she looks lovely for her age... she's alomst 60 people.... do you not remember your grandmothers??? Why is it that so many people think that surgery is the way?? It's not it's a cop out... it means you can't deal with what life has given you... what GOD has given you... GROW OLD WITH GRACE...

I think the whole idea behind being comfortable in your own skin is that you DON'T NEED the Botox/Laser/Skin peel and whatever other crud that's being marketed to look lovely.

Remember When

She has too much makeup on, and her hair is too long. Being in the modeling business, you think she could see this. Still a pretty face, but too much makeup and too much hair drags her looks down. That is my observation.

I agree. She is wearing too much make up. But worse yet, I am 58 and don't have nearly the aged skin she does. I am shocked that she (having very white thin skin) has not used modern techniques to take care of the the wrinkles and crows feet. Natural aging is good for those who have a lot of moisture in their skin. Unfortunately, as a skin care specialist, this type of aging is unsightly for someone in the public eye. She can opt to go private. Incidentaly, I think she has signs of much drinking over the years. When you don't, you look ten times better.

Debra, not everyone 40 and over has crows feet. Twiggy is 59, so why would you choose the age of 40 anyway? I fully expect to have at least some lines by 59...then again, my mom is 61 and still has great skin, so maybe not. I can't credit any product. Good genes, no drugs or smoking and no drinking since my early 20's might have something to do with my lack of crows feet at my ripe old age of 40, LOL.

Yes I am under 40 but I still have a right to my opinion...and my mom is 47 and has no wrinkles at all and she used to be a smoker. Then again, its very rare that I see african american women with crows feet. White people have paper thin skin (Not a racist comment, its a fact.)

stop the sniping drivel - point one, she did not promote an unhealthy body image, she just happened to be thin, not everyone is and some try to be when it is not intended. I am sick of people dissing someone because they are naturally thin - it is what it is. Secondly, she has lovely healthy hair, where is it written that older women must cut off their lovely locks? Again, I hear jealousy, she was thin, you were not, she has great hair, you do not. Quit being catty. she is also touting that you just need to be confident and you look great. So what's with the "she needs botox, she looks bad because she has crows feet". You are women's worst enemy criticizing other women. STOP IT I CAN' T TAKE ANY MORE PETTY BULLSHIT! Now, if a women chooses plastic surgery or injections, fine and if she chooses none, fine. Be comfortable in your own skin and happy with who you are is the message not, "am I prettier than her?"
