Yves Saint Laurent art collection up for sale

10/3/2008 10:06AM by Kyle Hepp

Are you rich? Or do you at least have a very high limit on your Mastercard? If so, you could bid for an art collection once owned by the late fashion great Yves Saint Laurent. It's expected to go for over $400 million dollars!

And it's no wonder! Saint Laurent was said to have needed art "like water to survive." In his lifetime he amassed a shockingly impressive collection with works by Picasso, Matisse, Mondrian, Géricault and Goya. Basically any major artist -- you name it, Saint Laurent owned it.

So you may be wondering who is going to come into such a huge lump sum of cash once these items are sold. His partner Pierre Bergé (pictured in this photo), who collected these items with Saint Laurent over the course of 40 years, is in charge of the estate. But, he won't be buying a yacht or a private jet with the fortune -- he intends to set up a foundation with the proceeds dedicated to the fight against AIDS.
