Flatter Your Figure - Fall looks for top heavy ladies

If you're top heavy -- we mean truly top heavy, not just a little busty -- you probably already know how important it is to try to make your body look proportional, which can be hard with the heavy fabrics and boxy cuts of some fall fashions. The last thing in the world you want to do is add bulk to your upper half, right? You don't want to look like you're about to tip over!

Top heavy ladies, start shopping with these tips!

(click thumbnails to view gallery)

  • Go for a good fit, not fitted
  • Learn to love dresses
  • Widen your stance
  • Beware the heel!
  • Sleeves count, too
We've done a bit of searching and have some rules for you to follow in the gallery. Of course, you always need to try things on for yourself, but if you follow these rules, the number of items you ultimately reject should be greatly reduced!

I am top heavy, I used to just be heavy and I have lots of tricks for not looking heavy. I find V necks very flattering as you don't look too bottled up and the v shape kinda makes your body look more hourglass. I don't think you need to go monochromatic which a lot of stylists advise people to do to look thinner. I feel what is really most important is to wear what you feel good in and that will make you feel more confident and that is projected.

I also think that gladiator shoes should be outlawed for all.. They make your legs look shorter, stumpier and they are just ridiculous looking.

I have lost weight recently and still dress similiarly to when I was heavier, but love that my clothing fits looser! I strive to eat healthy and lead by example for my daughters. I eat
flax every morning for health and weight loss reasons. I have the same breakfast now every day. I recently lost 30 pounds following the weight watchers program http://www.weightwatchers.com and I now just
am more watchful every day of what I eat. I have a banana low fat yogurt with golden roasted flax for breakfast every day. It is filling, keeps me regular and tastes fabulous (kinda like sesame seeds). My Weight Watchers leader recommended fitflax to me and it definitely helped
the last 10 pounds to melt off. It is low carb and low cal. It is a flax and chia blend and I think I read about it in O mag. They also listed a code to get 15% off. The site is http://www.fitflax.com and the code for 15% off is FIT15

Busty, Juicy women rule the world!!! You can have all the Hungry Looing Hollyweird types. Nothing is more desireable than a woman with real curves. Of course if your a little guy 140-175 pounds under 5'9'' and "Tommy Cruz "look a like you may be scared. The really sensual side is the heat of passion a really big girl generates that have a Treasure Chest they are gifted with.I just adore Huge Breasted Women!!!!And a little extra in the Can to grab on too is nice.
Yummy Big Girls will always rule my world...

Those empire dresses & shirts just make busty women look even larger, So do tucked in shirts. It is as bad as making a young girl that is on the heavy side wear those awful plaid pleated skirts with the tucked in blouses (uniforms). That is so humilating, as is those tucked in polo shirts that the overweight girls have to wear to schools that require uniforms. Who ever desgned those clothes in the pics should have to pay to pull them from the store shelves or where they were distributed to. Only a person with this problem would know how to dress to look good & be comfy, not a clothing designer!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe they suggested that purple thing...that shirt makes anyone over 125 lbs look pregnant!!! Girls w/ big chi-chis do NOT need to tuck in shirts it makes you look top heavy especially if you have a thin torso and legs. Jeez, what bad advice from them.

You are absolutely right. Some of the umpear tops make thin women look pregnant and if you are top heavy it is not the most complimentary look. I suggest a good bra to begin with, under any top!

Fred- thanks for your love and adoration for us naturally busty women- most people don't realize that there are many women out there who are not overweight, but we have naturally large breasts. I have always struggled with feeling bad about being top-heavy, and amazingly enough, it was yesterday I started feeling good and sexy about it after looking up information to see how men really felt about it- Men ADORE large breasts, lol. Fred only proves that and heck just look at episodes of Dr. 90210!!! Thank you, Fred, again for making us feel sexy and loving what God naturally gave us:)

I think the fashions they have now are HORRIBLE!
And CeeCee and Brandy are correct! What are they thinking with those umpire and box style blouses and jackets?
They also have these blouses with just a band type collar that hangs loose in the most hideous fabrics. Reminds me of the moo-moo the old neighbor lady wore when she sat outside in the morning with her coffee and cigarette.

Geez, it's not Umpire - it's "empire waist" which is below the breast and popularized by Josephine during Napolean's (he was "emperor" rule.

I'm a young lady that is top heavy. I'm 5 feet tall and weigh around 100 to 105 lbs and I agree you don't have to be heavy to have large "knockers". The fashions they show here are horrible and I wouldn't be caught dead wearing them!

Being top heavy does not mean you are plus sized. This article leaves out a large part of the curvy population which is not obese.

Wear whatever makes you feel good about yourself. Cover up, take off, just be you. Confidence is sexier than any outfit! Plus, I am not getting dresses made by Omar the tent maker because I am top heavy or plus sized. I have no problem attracting men of all color, ages, and sizes. I think my attitude of loving life trumps all fashions! Go for the gusto ladies!
