President Bush's niece changes name for her new fashion line

10/17/2008 12:06PM by Kristen Seymour

When starting a business, we understand that some folks might want to change their last names to avoid being associated with their families -- you know, if they had last names like Manson or Dahmer. But what about political associations? What if you were related to President Bush?

The President's niece, Lauren Bush, had just that dilemma when deciding what to name her new clothing line. Her decision? Use her grandmother's maiden name and name the label Lauren Pierce.

"It wasn't a conscious decision," Lauren told W magazine. "Obviously my last name is associated with politics ... It's not about downplaying my last name as much as it is about loving Pierce."

Considering she also sounded somewhat interested in Obama as a leader in the same interview, we think she might be choosing her words as carefully as a politician (well, maybe more carefully than her uncle).
