Skanky Halloween costumes for teens - Yea or Nay?

When you take your daughter to the costume shop, you might find yourself asking: why does it look like pedophiles designed all of this fairy and princess outfits? Sure, it's a long-standing tradition for college-age women to use Halloween -- or Slutoween, as some are calling it -- as an excuse to channel their inner skankiness. Apparently, the trend "sex sells" mentality has filtered down to the younger age groups and some parents aren't too cool with it.

How about this sweetie devil costume, would you want your 12-14 year-old wearing that on her trick or treating excursion? Talking your teenage daughter out of a skanky Halloween costume has got to be hell on wheels, but are you supposed to just cave in and let them go out looking like an exotic dancer? Sheesh.

When it comes to adults, we say: bring on the sexy -- but some of these kid costumes are just uncomfortably pervy. It gives us the same feeling we got from watching Olive's pageant striptease in Little Miss Sunshine -- except less funny/more creepy.

Melissa is absolutely right. We should leave the sex sells to grown-ups. It is hard enough to grow up in this time. There should be something to look forward too.

these stupid, offensive costumes are not appropriate or cute for any age, but especially not teenagers. I don't understand how adults expect teens not to want to wear a slutty costume when they do - it's moronic and hypocritical...

It’s because by and large, women long to exercise their sexuality, but society puts them down, and labels women who exhibit exhibitionist tendencies or sexual liberation as sluts, whores. While I think it’s largely fugly women who use these labels to try to reduce sexual competition from their more genetically gifted counterparts, it is pervasive in our society and it is our curse, gentlemen, to have to create the plausible deniability to convince them to let down their guard. They need to convince themselves that their slutty tendencies are exceptions to their normally virginal behavior. They need an excuse. As for girls dressing in this way, it's natural for maturing girls to want to exercise their attraction power, but it is up to the parents to ensure their behavior is appropriate.

Good costumes…Especially the Melody Josie Child Costume .Its a cute one. I feel offensive costumes are not appropriate for 9-12years kids. My daughter is going to wear sweetie fairy child costume this Halloween. It is a very pretty long, drop sleeve, two-tone mini dress with wings and magical wand….
