Monster Mash singer lives on as a diamond ring

10/31/2008 8:33AM by Cat Lincoln

Every year Halloween is ushered in with the sounds of that holiday classic "The Monster Mash". Sadly, Bobby Pickett, the who co-wrote and sang the distinctive hit, passed away in 2007.
That is, he's gone, but still here, so to speak. In what some might call a ghoulish memorial to him, his daughter Nancy had a LifeGem diamond made from his ashes, which she now wears on a ring.

Kristen wrote about LifeGems back in March, when Kimora Lee was looking for a way to "keep" pooch Zoe, who had recently died, near her heart. The company takes the ashes of a loved one and creates a diamond out of the carbon. You can pick the size, color and shape to make it the perfect memento mori.

A man-made diamond, made of man, isn't exactly as morbid as a Victorian Mourning ring made with human hair. Still, there is something really creepy about it. Which in a way makes it perfect for the man behind a Halloween classic.
