Christian Louboutin promises to make walking in high heels literally impossible

We love high -- sky high, teeteringly high, sometimes even painfully high -- heels. And Christian Louboutin is answering the call of insane women everywhere who don't believe heels are high enough by producing the world's first eight-inch heel.
Just for some perspective, Louboutin's current "It" shoe -- the studded, strappy punk pump spotted on the likes of Posh -- clocked in at a measly 5 inches.

We suggest lots of calf raises (and perhaps a Valium) before you strap these babies on.

**Update: In response to some of the comments, while fetish and stripper shoes have in fact offered "8-inch heels," Louboutin announced his plan to attempt an 8-inch heel sans platform, and made the "world's first 8-inch heel" pronouncement himself (see news article link). This year, a few designers created 6-inch heels -- minus any platforms -- which celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow wore.**

Leboutin is no where near the first to invent 8-inch heels. Fetishists have been wearing those and HIGHER for over a century.

You guys are obviously not looking at all sources of heels. Stripper heels, anyone? They've been 8" and loving it forever.

It may be an 8 inch high heel but what a woman is walking on is not quite the same... Take how thick the wedge is and subtract that from the heel height. From where the bottom of a woman's foot is in the shoe to the top of the heel is how high the drop is on a woman's arch. If there is padding in the shoe it can be even less. An 8 inch heel with a three inch wedge is really a bit less than a 5 inch drop. A 5 inch heel is high but it isn't 8 inches. This is the same on "stripper shoes. This is something most woman, Lindsay Miller included apparently don't think about. FYI-check out japan where really impossibly high wedges and styles have been the style for some time. The number of ankle injuries to woman every year from falling off them is really remarkable!
