Jean-etic Counseling - Tip of the Day!

12/7/2008 10:02AM by Boydie Beener

Jennifer GarnerHow many times have you shopped for jeans and bought them just slightly snug because, hey, those 5 extra pounds are going to come off sometime right? Wrong! Here are a few tips from DivineCaroline that put reality (whether you want it or not) into jean shopping.

Know your Flow-Chart: Never shop for jeans when menstrual (or pre or post for that matter). Because, you know... water weight, uncontrollable sobbing for no reason... etc, etc.

Accept that you are not Miley Cyrus: Unless you are 16, leave the juniors department immediately and never look back.

Know the difference between fitted and too tight: Don't rely on the old "jeans stretch a size" or any sort of wishful thinking while jean shopping. Get a pair that is snug and comfy, not tight.

Don't be wishy washy: Trends like fraying, fading, or worse, bling, will ultimately look outdated within months. Stick with dark, more flattering washes and classic cuts.

Understand stretch: Cheap jeans do stretch more so you might have to go a size smaller. But if you pay for good quality stretch denim, you will get what you pay for... in your true size.

Know your inseam: That way your denim will fit perfectly from top to bottom. If you're looking to find a pair to wear with heels, bring the shoes with you to try on. Or if you find a pair you love, get two, and have them tailored in a short and long length.
