If the fashion industry were high school, and by all accounts it most likely is, then American icon Oscar de la Renta would be the cheerleader who has the hot boyfriend and the grades to get into Harvard. Why? Well, lets see.

As the Wall Street Journal Reports, there are only 52 designers confirmed to show at New York Fashion Week next month. This is a dramatic decrease from last season which boasted over 80 designers on its schedule. The reason for the drop outs, of course, being the bad economy.

So, one could only imagine how many haters Oscar de la Renta has accumulated this week with his announcement of putting on two runway productions in February. Yes, we said two! As he told FWD, "[2008] has a been good year for me. While some businesses faced tough times, I actually added 15 employees to my company. Sales-wise, the last three months have been solid for us." And you thought Mean Girls was just a movie.
