Beyonce's Alarming 'Do

Who hasn't had an embarrassing trip through airport security. Maybe it's your belt, or your sunglasses, or maybe it's your bellybutton ring. Beyoncé is no exception -- the curvaceous chanteuse recently found herself held up at LAX security.

Style Evolution: Beyonce

From a 17-year-old girl group singer to a 27-year-old superstar, Beyoncé Knowles's career and fashion sense have exploded. With her third solo album I am...Sasha Fierce hitting stories this week, Stylelist took a look back at the star's not- always-stylish evolution.

Steve Granitz, WireImage | Steve Granitz, WireImage

Can you find Beyoncé in this picture? B -- second from right -- has come a long way from this sari-clad stop at the 1998 Soul Train awards with the members of Destiny's Child.

    Brenda Chase, Getty Images

At the 1999 Soul Train Awards, the girls of Destiny's Child were a purple haze of taffeta.

Mirek Towski, Time & Life Pictures/Getty Image

Don't blame Beyoncé for the group's third straight matchy-matchy trip to the 2000 Soul Train Awards. Blame her mom. Until recently, Tina Knowles was responsible for all of her daughter's red carpet...um...moments. (Maybe that's why the Soul Train Awards went kaput.)

    Jim Smeal, WireImage

The DC ladies rocked in warrior princess-meets-biker-chick ensembles to the 2000 MTV VMAs.

Robin Platzer, Twin Images / Online USA / Getty Images

Making waves? Working the red carpet the 9th Annual MTV Movie Awards in 2000 Beyoncé coordinated the crimping pattern in her hair to the wavy pattern in her dress.

    Steve Granitz, WireImage

The 43rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2001 were clearly a high point in Beyoncé's early career. Sadly the same can't be said for her fashion choice.

    Steve Granitz, WireImage

Don't tell mama. Perhaps in an attempt to bond with their young audience, Beyoncé, Kelly and Michelle dressed as Girl Scouts for Nickelodeon's 14th Annual Kid's Choice in 2001.

    Chris Weeks, Getty Images

Fans turned up to meet Destiny's Child while they were promoting their mega hit "Survivor" in 2001. Instead, they were greeted by technicolor cowgirls.

    George DeSota, Getty Images

At least she had the good sense to avoid a major J-Lo underwear snafu by wearing pasties under her sheer genie suit at the 2002 Grammy Awards.

    Steve Granitz, WireImage

She ditched the shoes, but still was setting off the metal detector, and it turned out that the problem was all in her head. Erm, her hair, rather. Not so surprising, considering her impressive wig collection, right?

We haven't had that particular problem, but we've definitely had our share of embarrassing moments in the security line (one involving an electric razor that got switched on and hummed its way through the x-ray machine). We've definitely learned to choose our traveling outfits based on how easily they'll go through airport security. How about you? What's your most embarrassing airport security gaffe? Let us know in the comments!

Hair Raising Star Styles

    Jada Pinkett Smith
Please tell us this mullet chop job is for a movie. When Jada's hair is slightly grown out, shiny and sleek, its easy to see why she and her hunky hubby are considered one of Hollywood's most stylish couples.

    Steve Granitz, WireImage.com

At her best, Katherine Heigl successfully channels Veronica Lake. But with too much product, her locks are dingy: No self-respecting bridesmaid would ever leave the house with hair that looks like it was inspired by "There's Something About Mary".

    Alexandra Wyman, WireImage.com

    Christina Aguilera
Only Bo Derek could be a perfect "10" in cornrows. Her new mommy makeover included trading her Dirrty 'do for Marilyn Monroe-inspired platinum blonde waves

    WireImage.com

    Victoria Beckham
Posh pioneered the blunt bob trend -- and it suits her no-nonsense fashion style perfectly. In this uptight up-do (r.), she looks like she's taking her reputation as an ice queen a little too seriously

    Ethan Miller, Getty Images

    Paris Hilton
Despite her privileged background, Paris has a hard time pulling off the sophisticated debutante look. A flirty asymmetrical bob works better for L.A.'s biggest party girl

    Dimitrios Kambouris, WireImage.com

    Katie Holmes
Katie's tousled tresses make her look like she's playing dress-up. Her Posh-inspired bob and bangs are picture perfect Hollywood Wife.

    Kevin Mazur, WireImage.com

    Mary-Kate Olsen
She's known for her eccentric style, but Mary Kate's Marc Jacobs' headband is less modern fashion icon, more Jane Fonda (circa 1982).
Tousled blonde tresses are better on a 22-year-old, no matter how many millions she's got

    Dimitrios Kambouris, WireImage.com

    Fergie
Hey, Fergie -- Bret Michaels wants his look back. The star is far more Glamorous when she wears her honey hair wavy and free.

    Jeffrey Mayer, WireImage.com

    Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett's super-poufy beehive doesn't create much buzz. A more natural style (l.) suits the pretty young star.

    Alicia Keys
Hey Alicia -- No One should be using the "Coneheads" for fashion inspiration! Keys' classic beauty shines in her natural curls.

2006 I was flying to Las Vegas with my fiancee to get married, departing DIA. He had a key fob on his keychain, you know the kind for pills? We were pulled out of the security line because the TSA agent said he 'thought' he could smell marijuana in the key fob, but the key fob was empty, totally shiny clean inside. The TSA agent ran over to this cop, who ran my fiancee's driver's license and he had some stupid warrant out on him because of a traffic ticket he had spaced out on (idiot). There were like 300 people in the security line watching as I sat there crying hysterically and two of the biggest cops I have ever seen came out of some hidden elevator, cuffed my fiancee, and took him to jail. Thankfully, I got him out the same day, we went to Vegas and got married. WHAT A NIGHTMARE. I was left at the airport all by myself, crying so hard, at 7:00 A.M. We had gotten a ride there so I had to call someone, wake them up, and have them come all the way to get me and our luggage. Humiliating.

*Thumbs Up TSA" Finally they catch someone who is really in the wrong instead of confiscating toothpaste in a 3.5 oz container!!!

Next time find a fiance who is a man and takes care of his
responsibilities. And for God's Sake...stop being a victim!

Many wigs have metal clips used to attach the hair piece to the underlying hair on the head. These metal clips can set off a sensitive metal detector.

I was going thru security at Las Vegas airport, when the Lady scanning luggage yelled "She's has a gun!!!" I'm going who has a gun? Next thing I know I am surrounded by law enforcement and my luggage is being moved to a table. Then it occurred to me I had bought a toy Pirate set for the little boy I was nanny too. Well, of all the commosion! They ended up taking the gun away from me(it didn't even shoot pellets) and letting me go on to my gate to board the plane for Long Beach, Ca.. This was before 911. From that point on I never bought toy guns anywhere. Years later it is funny, but talk about a scary situation!! I was treated like a criminal.

Think about it you morons.....Its a METAL DETECTOR...Do you think some wigs stay there by the grace of God? Or are you the ones that pull a ton of change out of your pockets and announce "Its just change" when the alarm goes off...

most of you guys wouldn't get it. when wigs are applied they are anchored with METAL hairpins and METAL clamps. I'd rather see this headline than 'Beyonce humiliated at airport as her wig slips off'

If you haven't figured out by now that the Title to a story is just to get your attention and nothing to do with the story, your the morron. It is time to hold these worthless "journalist" accountable for their worthless stories full of lies and just bad taste. I know I am sick and tired of it and have quit buying all the magazines on the stands now. I watch the news for the real news, it is certainly not in these magazines. Which aren't even happy when they have driven someone to cmmit suicide!
Like Nancy Grace, the Vigelante, make her living off of others pain. she is disgraceful!!! Shame on her!

Well I know the feeling. I was traveling very early in the morning when I set off metal detectors as well. They then put me aside for the "royal treatment" I have carpel tunnel and my brace (which I thought was all plastic supports inside) was the culprit. They then kept saying 'I'm getting a reading by your groin???????" It's my zipper you idiots! "What about your bra?" "Is it an underwre????The supervisor and everyone was starring at me and scutinizing me. I was patted down by this dyke from hell and was made to feel like a criminal. She even asked me if I would prefer to go into a private room for the proceedure., of course i declined. I am 63, and a swedish american. I will now only travel in pajama's and no bra, without my brace and suffer the consequences for not wearing the brace (while lugging carryons and such.) Thank god my plane was 1 hour late. LOVE air travel.

2 years ago I had my right knee replaced . I have a card from my Doctor saying I have a metal knee. Everytime I go thru security I beep. I show the security my Doctor's card and they still go over me . It doesn't bother me. You get used to it.
