Fall 2009 Fashion Week - Backstage at Thuy

MAKEUP: Romero Jennings for M.A.C
HAIR: Allen Ruiz for Avon
BEAUTY SNAPSHOT: It's all about the eyes
THE SCOOP:
To create the look for the show makeup artist Romero Jennings worked closely with designer Thuy and stuck to her focus on organic shapes and clean lines. "To play off the clean lines we decided to do a strong bold eyeliner but instead of doing a normal shape we decided to do something squared off so it's quiet strong and graphic." The eyes are the star of this look so to complete the makeup Jennings did a simple sculpted cheek and a neutral mouth. The result is fresh and accessible. "Anybody could do this themselves and it's almost like you're messing up your liner because you're not doing a point so it's easy to clean up. To get the cheek right, smile so you can see where the apple forms. Notice where the point is and then relax your face. Start applying at the point and blend out."
To emulate the chic updo at home hairstylist Allen Ruiz says the key is prepping and texturizing the hair. "You want to have the hair well treated so it isn't slipping as you shape and pin. Once you have prepped, form a side ponytail and then roll it up pinning as you go." For longer hair Ruiz suggests twisting and pinning pieces to create the right length of loose strands.
