Emotions often run high in the world of fashion when designers seem to deliberately push the boundaries of what is an already undernourished idealized standard for runway models. When you call a supermodel like Heidi Klum "too heavy" -- as Wolfgang Joop did recently -- you've really stepped over the line. In an interview attacking the 36 year old model, Joop told Bild that "she is no runway model! Heidi Klum is simply too heavy and has too big a bust." Slam.
Adding insult to injury, Wolfgang went on to enumerate the reasons that he thinks she isn't fit to grace the catwalk by critiquing her facial features and the very bubbling personality that makes her a standout: "she always grins so stupidly. That is not avant-garde – that is commercial!"
Maybe Joop needs to take a look at the last few decades of supermodel history, because Heidi Klum most certainly is a runway model ... and has been since the early 90s. But he's not the only one trash talking Heidi, Louisa von Minckwitz, a top modeling exec has voiced her own criticisms:
"At 1.76 meters she is five centimeters too short. But, despite everything, she is a dream woman, an advertising icon and a superstar."Regardless of what any of her detractors are saying, Klum is set to bare all in the March edition of GQ. We're not all that excited about the cover, but it has nothing to do with Heidi's measurements -- we're just not fans of the art direction.
