SHOW: Baby Phat/KLS Collection
MAKEUP: James Kaliardos, Key Artist for MAC
HAIR: Odile Gilbert
BEAUTY SNAPSHOT: First Lady glam

THE SCOOP: Baby Phat's Fall 2009 collection was inspired by the strength, tenacity and beauty of the American woman, and who better represents that woman than Michelle Obama. And the hair and makeup was just as classic as our First Lady.

Celebrity hairstylist Odile Gilbert described the look she created as "big, beautiful, and Baby Phat!" Long curly extensions were added to the models' hair, teased, cut, and curled to mimic Michelle's famous medium-length coif.

James Kaliardos drew inspiration from Michelle's "classic, soft, pretty look" but "bumped it up a little bit" to stay true to the essence of Baby Phat. For Kaliardos, it was all about sculpting to create a contoured face. The makeup artist used a nude sculpting foundation and applied nude shadows horizontally into the eye crease to add definition. Eyelids were topped with a pinkish-gold for some sparkle and cheeks were peach, pink or fuchsia (depending on the model's complexion). Individual lashes were applied to make them "feathery, light, and open" and the top lashes were stroked in a black mascara. To complete the look, Kaliardos used a creamy lip gloss with a pale pink sheen. "Some people are actually afraid to use a pale color on dark skin, but it looks really fresh," he said. "As long as its not too white or gray then a darker skinned girl can get away with a pale lip."
