Robin Roberts Needs Your Help for the Oscars!

robin roberts at the espy awardsRobin Roberts, the beloved Good Morning America anchor, will be on the red carpet at the Oscars, interviewing the brightest celebrities of the awards season. But she can't decide what to wear!

Just like most of us would do in her situation, Robin turned to her most stylish friend, Suze Yalof Schwartz of Glamour Magazine.

Suze brought Robin to three top designers: Reem Acra, Giles Mendel of J. Mendel, and J. Crew creative director Jenna Lyons, who each gave Robin such a great choices that she was still stumped -- but this time because she had too many options.

To make her decision, Robin is asking you, the American public, to pick her look for the night by leaving a comment on the Good Morning America site.

Oscar Dress Predictions

Sure, it's an honor just to be nominated for an Academy Award. But it's also a headache. Oscar's "It" girls -- the best-actress and best-supporting-actress nominees -- certainly have their choice of fabulous gowns, and that's what makes it so hard to find that One Perfect Dress. Small wonder so many Hollywood celebs get stuck in variations on a gossamer theme. Case in point: Angelina Jolie, who, in her post-twins body and post-Elvira psyche, has worn probably one blouson too many (this one is from Versace). Perhaps with six kids and nearly as many houses she doesn't have time to shop. So, StyleList offers up a Woulda-Shoulda sampling -- at look at what these gals Would pick (if left to their own devices) and Should pick (if they listen to ours). The envelope, please...

    Steve Granitz, WireImage

WOULD: Maybe it's all those months hiding baby bumps on bottom and nursing breasts on top. Whatever the reason, Angelina, nominated for her starring role in "Changeling," has lately favored drapey gowns in muted colors. If she sticks to her new signature style, expect her to float down the red carpet in something like this sea-green piece from Elie Saab's spring collection.

    Nathalie Lagnea, Catwalking/Getty Images

SHOULD: An actress with Angie's clout (and curves) needs something edgier. Our vote: a violet and orange goddess gown from Rodarte's spring collection, which was inspired by Olafur Eliasson, the Dutch artist who installed those towering waterfalls under the Brooklyn Bridge last spring.

    Karl Prouse, Catwalking/Getty Images

Although Anne Hathaway was nominated for her role as the brittle younger sister in "Rachel Getting Married," her dresses often seemed pulled from her "Princess Diaries" closet -- an endless array of strapless tops and frothy skirts, like the navy Giorgio Armani that she wore to the Golden Globes this year. Pretty? Yes. Predictable? Definitely.

    Steve Granitz, WireImage

WOULD: Like the second-assistant in "The Devil Wears Prada," Hathaway appreciates the importance of the fashion closet -- and, like the thigh-high boots in the film, it sometimes seems that she just can't resist the over-the-top confections inside. Remember the white Valentino with the big black bow that she wore to the 2007 Oscars? We do. Which is why we wouldn't be surprised to see Princess Anne in a Statement Dress, like this sweeping, strapless, embroidered and embellished Marchesa.

    IMAXTREE.com

SHOULD: A softer, more sophisticated -- and just as dramatic -- choice would be this sunny yellow column from Carolina Herrera's spring collection. Hathaway would easily out-dazzle her statuette.

    STAN HONDA, AFP/Getty Images

When 44-year-old Marisa Tomei isn't showing off her (dazzling) naked body, she's eager to prove she's just another boho Brooklyn gal. Alas, that can land her in trouble, as it did at this year's Golden Globes, where her lace-and-chains outfit by Oscar de la Renta earned her more than a few "Pirates of the Caribbean" jabs.

    Frazer Harrison, Getty Images

WOULD: Nominated as the heart-of-gold stripper in "The Wrestler," Tomei might not be able to resist the urge to show that she can take risks on and off the screen. Just the ticket: this muted Nina Ricci gown with a delicate train.

    Karl Prouse, Catwalking/Getty Images

SHOULD: We'd love to see Tomei play against type in a frankly feminine gown like this copper-and-purple de la Renta. We bet no one would accuse her of channeling her inner Jack Sparrow.

    Chris Moore, Catwalking/Getty Images

Kate Winslet has already picked up a boatload of awards this year for her starring roles in "The Reader" and "Revolutionary Road," so why does it seem that she's always dressed in black? (Here's she's wearing Yves Saint Laurent for the Golden Globes.) Even her 8-year-old daughter, Mia, recently urged her to ditch the widow's weeds in favor of a cheerier color -- say, pink.

    Jason Merritt, Getty Images

  • Our first choice comes from Reem Acra, who has dressed stars like Angelina, Eva Longoria Parker and Christina Applegate, put together a "confidence building" cobalt blue goddess dress. She would pair the dress with a Valentino bag and Manolos.
  • If you think Robin should go with the proven choice of other alliterative stars like Amy Adams and Laura Linney, the J. Mendel dusty lavender silk chiffon gown is the way to go. Giles Mendel would put this "emotional choice" with a Tod's bag and Ferragamo shoes.
  • J. Crew is a well-known -- and affordable -- favorite of First Lady Michelle Obama. If this coral halter gown of silk tricotine wins, Robin will be the first person to wear J. Crew on the red carpet! Jenna selected this dress for Robin with the philosophy of picking one statement element -- in this case the gotta have it trendy color.

So which one should it be? Vote on the GMA site, and then tell us who you picked in poll below!

What Should Robin Wear to the Oscars?
The cobalt blue Reem Acra - she looks great in blue!1171 (40.8%)
The dusty lavender J. Mendel - it's dreamy!435 (15.1%)
The bright coral from J. Crew - so pretty, and we're in a recession, you know!1266 (44.1%)

I think you should wear the coral, Robin. I think the color is excellent for you. I feel like I'm in tune with you, I had a mastectomy two weeks ago. Maybe we're soulmates now!! I think you're beautiful.

My choice would be the cobalt dress BUT in the coral color. The coral looks fantastic on you but I love the lines of the cobalt dress.

First of all... who CARES what she wears?
Secondly, I lost ALL respect for her as a reporter after watching the unabashed way she fawned over Obama at the inauguration (as well as other times). I don't think I've ever fawned over someone like that since I was 10 and watched David Cassidy. I felt embarrassed for her. It's ok to be happy, but try to be a little bit professional, too.

Shame on you "kar." There was nothing wrong in how she interviews, approaches or however you want to put it. She is genuine with everyone she meets in whatever position they hold! It is a shame that because she is in the "spotlight" that she can't be herself. So, what are you hiding?

Honest to God. This is absurd. People are losing everything and we are voting on a dress for an anchor who brings attention to herself in every story. I am also a cancer survivor. She is so self centered. Every story she brings attention to herself. Whether it is a funny face, a werid gesture. She needs to take some lessons from the class act of Diane Sawyer. She knows when to step in and step ot a story. ESPN was more approriate for her.

I think this coral color is the very best for you. You have the skin tone that is perfect for it. If I put this color on I could look horrible in it but on you, it's beautiful. Navy blue would be my color. I actually wish that they had the style of the lavender dress in the coral shade, that actually would have been the most perfect dress but I know it's now too late for that to happen. Whichever dress you wear just make sure you have fun but in any of them you'll look wonderful. Wish I could put on a beautiful gown and go to something like this but I guess I just don't live the right sort of lifestyle for anything like that to happen.

I agree, Robin, with her shape & height looks great in all the dresses. I love the shape & style of the stunning blue. The coral is a hot color with her skin tones. The other one looks good, but is a little more subdued for the AAwards.

Cheryl, shame on you! Yes, we are going through a lot of changes regarding economy, etc., but life goes on! It is refreshing to engage in this sort of thing. Who wants gloom and despair 24/7??? I admire Robin for showing those of us suffering with vairous illnesses that life can still be beautiful, so please stop being jealous of her beauty and fame, and have a possitive outlook on life!

In this country we are all entitled to our opinions.I like good happy news as well as anybody. Reality is what it is. I am not jealous of her fame or beauty. I simply cannot tolerate her self serving journalist style. I to am a cancer survivor as I stated before.I am positive and a very grateful person. Shame on you for not accepting someone who does not agree with the way a person acts on a morning television show. That woman could make any story about herself. Once again, Diane,Meredith,Matt,Chris exhibit humility. Take lessons Miss Roberts.

You always are fashionable, but the cobalt blue would be best choice for the Oscars--regal and elegant. While you would be smashing in the coral, your job is to interview not overshadow the guests on the runway. The coral could clash often with the color of dresses chosen by the stars.
