Jewelry was big at the Oscars this year, but nothing was as big as the 19th Century Diamond Flower Necklaces from Fred Leighton, seen above on Taraji P. Henson, and also in our gallery on Amanda Seyfried. We also saw great big statement jewelry from Neil Lane and Lorraine Schwartz -- of which Heidi Klum was wearing so much, we're not sure how she could lift her arm!
Seems like everyone was into Fred Leighton this year. His elegant, opulent pieces were seen on Amy Adams, Alicia Keys, Viola Davis, Sarah Jessica Parker, Tilda Swinton, Tina Fey, and Heath Ledger's mother and sister Sally Bell and Kate Ledger, just to name a few.
Chopard also made a good -- and lucky! -- showing, decking out winners Penelope Cruz and Kate Winslet.
We saw a lot of "statement jewelry" at fashion week, and seeing more of it on the red carpet last night confirms it: with jewelry this year, go big or go home. It's a recession thing; if you're gonna put on some diamonds, put on some freaking huge diamonds. Modest wealth in these times is just plain irritating.
