Minnesota Educators Want to Ban Axe Body Spray

a can of Axe body sprayFor almost a decade, men ages 14-25 have enjoyed the awesome transformational power of Axe Body Spray -- the only body spray with the ability to morph a sweaty, stinky, pimple-faced loser into a chiseled, confident, girl-getting machine in seconds. In Minnesota, however, school district officials wants to turn back the clock by banning the miracle potion. They say the man-spray has been abused and the aerosol stench is a hazard for students and faculty.

Of course, there doesn't seem to be any real evidence to link the use -- or overuse -- of Axe to allergy symptoms or headaches, but that hasn't stopped the City of Minneapolis School District from trying to ban the stuff. State representative Karen Clark has even proposed a phasing out of all fragrances from public schools.

Has she forgotten the putrid smells of sweaty adolescents? Maybe she needs a reminder of that horrific Eau de Locker Room that Axe covers up so potently.

One concern prompting suburbia to sound the alarms is the idea that Axe Body Spray is somehow enabling teens to adopt poor hygiene habits. Says pediatrician Dr. Charles J. Wibbelsman:
"Some adolescents, often more commonly boys, can have excessive secretions in the form of sweat ... And some male teens really do not see a daily shower as an activity that they wish to take the time to do."
Instead of the banning all fragrances, it appears that Minneapolis will resort to an awareness campaign that teaches youngsters moderation in their application of perfumes. Wow, way to equip those teens with the skills they need to succeed in college.

Mandals, Murses and Muggs

Sure, male celebs are rich and famous, but does that mean the rules of fashion don't apply to them? Judging by the number of Muggs (man Uggs), Mandals (man sandals), Murses (man bags) and Manpris (man capris) we've spotted on Hollywood hunks, the answer, apparently, is no! Our first culprit: Ben Affleck. Apparently the shoes he was made to wear in his new film Man About Town weren't up to Mr. Affleck's comfort standards. Luckily he had his muggs on hand so he could relax his tootsies between takes.

Gaz Shirley / Bret Thompsett, Pacific Coast News

Party animal, action star, sex symbol, mugg lover? Tough guy Bruce Willis clearly has a softer side.

    Westley Hargrave, Splash News

We couldn't care less what's on the feet of most 5-year-olds, but when your mom is fashion icon Victoria Beckham, such a serious fashion crime can't be ignored. Uggs with shorts? Even at his young age Romeo Beckham should know better!

    WENN

Rolling Stones' legend Ronnie Wood actually went to a music event in his muggs. Earlier in his career such an un-rock and roll moment could have had a serious impact on Wood's cool cred, but at 6, we're willing to let him off with a warning.

    Harold Cunningham, WireImage

For Olympian Michael Phelps, it must be hard to get dressed when you're used to wearing a Speedo 24 hours a day. These mandals belong back in Beijing -- by the pool!

    PNP/ WENN

Looks like Hannah Montana's dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, tripped in his mandals and ripped a gigantic hole in his jeans. This entire look -- V-neck tee, soul patch and frosted hair -- is enough to make any teen, even Miley, embarrassed to be seen with dad.

    Splash News

Brad may be a dad, but that's no excuse for this overstuffed murse. Calling George Clooney -- Mr. Pitt needs a weekend with the dudes to break this habit!

    ANG/Fame Pictures

Bono found what he was looking for while on vacation with wife Ali Hewson this summer -- a heinous pair of mulitcolored platform mandals.

    Bauer-Griffin

Matthew McConaughey has been spotted all over town with this mega-murse designed by fiance Camila Alves. "I wear her bags daily!" he says. Hey Matt -- the operative word is her!

    Splash News

The Hulkster looks badass... until you pan down to his ladylike mandals.

What the article neglects to mention is that the problem is NOT students wearing the deoderant. Students (especially middle schoolers) like to carry a can of the stuff and spray it in the classroom liberally or at friends as a joke. That has to be why they are considering the ban. Take it from a teacher.

Thank you! I teach 8th graders, and I can attest to the MAJOR problem of boys using this crap as a means to disrupt the school environment. It cleared an entire room and required a couple of kids to go to the nurse because it made them feel nauseated a couple of months ago when an untopped can went off in a kid's gym bag. They've sprayed it in the hallways at the end of the day when the halls are packed and we as teachers are unable to watch every move of every student. We even suspended two students recently for spraying it and trying to light it with a contraband lighter. All these boys need to do to control their stank is BATHE!

I agree with what they say about teens enabling poor hygiene by thinking if they use the Axe instead of actually taking a shower. However, my husband uses it all the time and I personally think it smells great. It's actually a turn on for me. If teens can't learn to shower then the parents screwed up somewhere along the line.

I would vote YES on that one. Nothing is more obnoxious that that over-powering ordor. Its enough to take your breath away permanently, through aphyxiation ! Good for them !.. I hope it passes. I won't allow my son to wear it, when he does, he is a walking hazard to himself and others.

wow. really? is this necessary? instead of wasting taxpayer money and budget costs for arranging a campaign.. they should be spending their money and time on how to better the students' education with what supplies they have..

Axes are very dangerous.
You could cut or decapitate yourself with an Axe.
I think they should ban Axes in school.
They ban knives and guns.

Ken...you've got to be kidding? Did you even read the article; or felt an impulse to just leave a dumb@** comment. An "ax" is a tool; usually used in the removal or cutting of wood/trees and/or brush. "Axe" is the name of a popular deodorant body spray for men.
