Karolina Zmarlak Makes Super Dresses

Karolina Zmarlak (pictured above with her latest collection) is a Polish, FIT educated designer who has spent some time working with Carolina Herrera and Theory, and some time designing made to measure women's wear for private clients (she specializes in tailoring), and now she has released her very first ready to wear collection -- Fluid Foundations. We call these "super dresses." Why?
Each dress and top has these grosgrain ties, often hidden, which enable you to not only tailor the look to fit your body perfectly, but to completely change the look of the outfit. Most of the items are reversible, and many also include cleverly disguised snaps one can use to make a long dress into a short dress, a black dress into a blue dress, and so on.
Karolina Zmarlak also makes terrific "Power Pants" using a special, thick, suck-you-in blend of nylon, spandex, and lycra. What we especially like about these pants is that she makes them purposefully too long, so that they come down over your shoe (see the gallery for an example). "I always want to lengthen the leg. In my drawings, all the figures have long, long legs. By making the pant long enough to cover some of the heel, it creates a very long look," says Zmarlak.
We agree, and love the long slick pant-over-shoe idea as a much needed update to the tired looks of leggings in your boots and leggings with shoes and socks!
These pieces don't come cheap, but like we said, one dress is more like three, and they are made from durable materials -- meant to last for years and years. Check out some of the great looks in the gallery, and on KarolinaZmarlak.com!
