The Eyeshadow Color Flash - Is This Wearable?

A Gucci Color FlashOne of the hot new trends we saw on the runways for Spring 2008 was the Eyeshadow Color Flash. At right, check out makeup artist Pat McGrath's look for Gucci. McGrath showed us how to create the look with Max Factor Vivid Impact Duo Eyeshadow ($8), and we're gonna tell you. But ... is this wearable?

McGrath achieved this look by swiping a bold color generously all over the model's lined eyelid, then blending it upward to include the entire area between lash and brow. She herself brought up the fact that this is probably a bit extreme for regular people like us, and gave us a few suggestions on how to make the runway's hot "Eyeshadow Color Flash" work for real life!

"It's not the kind of thing you'd expect to see walking down the street," says McGrath.

Annie Scott attempts to follow her advice below, armed with a Max Factor Vivid Impact Duo Eyeshadow in Emerald Coast.

Five Ways to Wear Eye Color - Spring 2009

(click thumbnails to view gallery)

  • 1. Blend it.
  • 2. Block color
  • 3. Sans black
  • 4. Add mascara
  • 5. Add shine

Celebrity makeup artist Pat McGrath showed us how to create top looks from the spring runways, and now we're testing them out.

Ya---this is definitely not so wearable. I think you'd have to be a model or at least fairly artsy to try this one!

High impact make-up can be worn by anyone if done correctly. If you are a bit more demure than use a subtle splash. If you are more artsy than have fun with it. Think of the rich colors as an accessory. High impact colors were all over the runway like Ungaro's last showing. Nice and bright.
