EGF - What It Is and Why Your Skin Needs It

faceWhether you're 25 or 75, you want skincare products that keep your skin looking fresh, youthful, and wrinkle-free. And every skincare company makes products to help, but how many of them have a Nobel Prize-winning ingredient that's proven to regenerate aging skin?

Epidermal Growth Factor (or EGF) may sound like something we churned out in Biology 101, but it's actually an ingredient that we should all make ourselves very familiar with. EGF is used in a number of RéVive skincare products, so to learn more we turned to Dr. Greg Brown, the founder of RéVive.

The body releases EGF naturally when you're injured. Dr. Brown (who's a plastic surgeon by trade) discovered that when applied to burns and wounds, EGF dramatically accelerates healing. And, if EGF could do this for external lesions, Dr. Brown knew that it could regenerate aging skin. He went on to found RéVive skincare, beginning in 1997 with an EGF-packed anti-aging night cream. "Now, we're dealing with aging at the molecular level rather than just on the skin's surface," he explained.

reviveWe asked NYC dermatologist Dr. Amy Wechsler about EGF as well, and she backed up the fact that EGF is, in fact, involved with normal cell growth and wound healing. It doesn't sound so pretty that way, but what it really means is that it works.

It might be science, but as far as we're concerned, it's magic. We've used RéVive's Microdermabrasion Renewal System (Hey, it's never too early to start maintenance, as far as we're concerned), and were shocked to find that the little line that's been bugging us between our eyebrows was almost completely gone after just one use. And yep, you guessed it -- the Microdermabrasion Renewal System contains EGF.

We're sold, but are you? Let us know whether you really believe any product can rid you of wrinkles. Or, if you have a product you believe in, tell us about it in the comments!

I just tried the new Riversol skincare line by dermatologist Dr. Jason Rivers. I had to write in to tell you that I have never used a product line before that makes my skin feel so soft and hydrated! My makeup instructor uses it in her film kit as well for his line is developed for all skin types. It’s super easy to use and the price point is so great for a professional product line! Their Facebook page is where I found them under RIversol and received my free samples within days. Check them out, you’ll be happy you did!
