U*tique Shop Hits Los Angeles - Don't Call It a Vending Machine
Don't call it a vending machine.
The world's first interactive, automated upscale store has come to La La Land's Fred Segal Santa Monica.
Just insert your credit card, toggle the computer's touch screen until you find that $85 hand cream you desperately need, and voila, the bottle magically drops into your palms. Okay, so I don't quite understand how it works, but no one ever said this was a tech blog. It's a style blog. All you need to know is that it works.
In fact, it works so well, that U*tique has the potential to haunt the hallways of airports, train stations, malls and churches across America. Why?
It's simple really. "Time is the new luxury of today," said Founder and CEO Mara Segal at last week's launch party."Carrying 50 products enables us to cut through the clutter and focus on the must-haves. We have the unique opportunity to educate the consumer about these products and ensure they have access to them where they need them."
And get this, you can even sample the lotions. If you're not sure what you are about to buy, press a button and a tiny sample squirts out. If you like it, you buy it (which is way better than if you break it, you buy it!) That's precious time, energy and money saved.
Picture It: Right after checking in for a flight, you realize you forgot your Bliss Triple Oxygen Mask. Drama! What are you going to do? You know the airport gift shop isn't exactly known for its upscale facial moisturizing masks. Defeated, you wander aimlessly when you suddenly walk past this bright, dotted machine that has just what you're looking for. Some call it magic. I call it the future!
Bring your plastic -- prices range from $5 Starry-Eyed Emotibuds to a $160 set of Mink Eyelashes.
So, shop til it drops!
