'Michelle Style' - A New Book on the First Lady of Fashion
Michelle Style arrives in bookstores May 5th. Photo courtesy of Harper Collins.
The book is a retrospective of the outfits Michelle wore during the campaign and Inauguration, starting with several chapters organized around color -- which Michelle fans know she uses masterfully. Seeing the range of purple, orange and red outfits grouped together, you also get a great sense of how much she enjoys fashion, and how her fantastic confidence transforms simple styles into chic ensembles!
Another fun feature is the "What Mrs. O. Knows" section at the end of each chapter, which breaks down Michelle's approach in ways that make it easy to replicate at home with lessons like:
- Dress to show off your assets, like toned shoulders or long legs
- Pick classics, then update them
- Keep the makeup dramatic but light
- Be groomed, but not "done"
- Remember: it's about looking great, not "young"
We loved getting the story behind some of her now iconic outfits, like the black and white dress from The View, and the yellow J. Crew outfit she wore on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. And jewelry lovers will swoon over detailed images of the diamonds she wore to the Inaugural Balls The gems are now headed to the Smithsonian Museum along with her flowing white Jason Wu gown.
Fun bonus: a quick glimpse at the fashions of first ladies around the world including Carla Bruni, married to the President of France, Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, and Chikako Aso, wife of the Japanese Prime Minister.
Michelle Style hits shelves May 5th. But if you need a First Lady fashion fix now, browse selected pages on the Harper Collins site, where die-hard fans can also pre-order it!
