Cloris Leachman's Latest Antic - 'Cloris Line' Fashion Collection

Today, when you mention Cloris Leachman, images of the sprightly octogenarian and her over-the-top behavior on "Dancing with the Stars" immediately come to mind. Die-hard "DWTS" fans and the judges alike were shocked week after week as Leachman somehow managed to rock the vote. But, ultimately, she got the boot (er, soft shoe).

What many people might not picture is the stunning ingenue in 1955's "Kiss Me Deadly" or the star's Oscar-winning performance in 1971's "The Last Picture Show."

And totally true to form, just when you least expect it, Cloris has something else up her sleeve, literally -- a clothing and accessories collection! Aptly (and cleverly) named "Cloris Line," it consists of way more than one singular sensation!

The Cloris Line

Cloris Leachman has never had a problem posing for the camera, making her the perfect model for her new clothing line.

This lady knows how to have fun, and it shows.

The versatile mix and match collection -- available exclusively at clorisline.com starting the night of May 23rd -- was designed to flatter a mature woman's body (concealing arms and hips) and to be extremely low maintenance (no ironing!). The idea is that a few basics (if you call zebra print basic) can go a long way, especially when appropriately accessorized for the occasion. Plus, the prices are a throwback to CL's heyday with everything retailing for under $50.

Leachman on her line:

When I recently completed my autobiography I realized that everything I had written about took place in the past. What about the future, I asked myself, and right away the thought came bubbling up, start creating things I've always thought about but haven't done. And up in front of me came a name, "Cloris Line." Right, I thought, what's the first thing? I know, we'll create a clothing line ... My friend and superb designer, Veronique, feels, as I do, that women of a "certain age" (for instance mine) have difficulty finding things to wear that are affordable, appealing and have some little air, some touch of originality. What you wear is how you announce who you are and to me too many American women look like members of a penguin community. You'll smile at the sense of panache you feel when you put on something from "Cloris Line" and that smile will widen into a grin when you remember it costs under $50. So stand tall, ladies, here are some views of what I firmly believe you'll want to be wearing.

Her design process may be just as unique as her personality:

"Cloris and [friend/designer] Veronique have worked hard together at coming up with the perfect line for you: going through her closet at night, meeting in between two planes, trying clothes on just before a performance or in a restaurant, bouncing ideas while both being jet-lagged. Cloris's spirit is in every piece of our 'Summer Very Versatile' line."

Does Cloris as clothing designer get your vote? Leave a comment telling us what you think.

I am suprised at this since she is obviously not the tiny size she used to be. This is a woman who made the comment on a talk show that all plus sized people should be locked away somewhere so other people wouldn't have to look at them.
I hope she goes broke .

Thanks for an attractive line of clothing for those of us who are not young little things anymore. And I always loved Cloris! Great job, girls!

Finally, someone has come up wiwth clothes that look good on the over 60s, 70s, 80s and up. It's about time. I always admired the clothes on the Golden Girls. Tell me where to buy!

I agree with Claire, I'm 67 and having a hard time finding just a Mother Of The Bride dress for a wedding. They are all matronly and unattractive. Also wearing too young clothing when you are a grandmother! I would love to see Cloris's clothing line. Thankyou, Cloris!

It's about time that someone designed fashionable clothing for the "mature" woman. Hooray for Cloris

Cloris is refreshing. She proves that age is more a state of mind than a number. I'm in my mid fifties and a size 6 and I'd wear it, if they are priced for the masses.

Can't wait!! I'm 64 and in the process of changing my look. Forget matronly. And forget Chicos. All those flowery blouses look old. Ready for something fresh and exciting!!

You go girl. Itis great that we havew a choice to make. What our mothers and grandmothers use to wear is now out ot the picture and we can dress in style and not look like "Granny Smith" At 72 I am glad to be able to sress as I want and as I have in all my years. No more shoes that tie and no more clothes that a re truly out of style.

Dear Cloris and Veronique, thank you so much.
Everytime I look at a commercial I cringe and think; why don't they put on a mature model we are a big majority.
I'm 74 but have the figure of a 40 yr. old and the face of a 60 yr.old and the attitude of a 35 yr. old , to the point that all my younger friends tell me they want to grow up to be like me. My problem is finding the proper clothes. I wind up wearing jeans and nice tops because I can't find anything to suit my lifestyle. Design some dresses also, please!!
Love you!

Thank you Cloris! It is about time that someone came out with a line for the "mature" woman that you don't look like you are a frump.. Many of us over 70 have always said if only we had the money, we'd open a shop for us that wasn't all boring. We like classic, but we like stylish, too.
