Abigail Breslin's Look - Too Grown Up?

Abigail Breslin looking lovely at the NYC premiere of "My Sister's Keeper," but is the look too sophisticated for a 13-year-old? Photo: Getty Images

Abigail Breslin has always seemed wise beyond her years -- in interviews, she comes across smarter and more articulate than half of her adult co-stars.

She has also managed to successfully bridge the gap between little girl and glamorous movie star on the red carpet.

At least, she had until now. The 13-year-old's most recent red carpet look at the New York City premiere of "My Sister's Keeper," is considerably more adult than what we're accustomed to seeing her in and so not what we would expect from Breslin.

Undeniably, she looks beautiful. The light lavender, draped chiffon dress is right on-target, fashion-wise, and her metallic heels perfectly compliment her frock.

But we're feeling somewhat uncomfortable about a tween in a bust-enhancing, strapless dress. No, it's not showing anything inappropriate, but it looks a bit like she's playing dress up.

Breslin's still got a couple of years before she hits her Miley Cyrus phase, when wearing outfits that qualify as "sexy" is slightly controversial, but not creepy.

And, while we don't think this crosses that line, it does put our Little Miss Sunshine a bit closer than we'd like. What do you think?

it's funny you should say that, I actually think she looks rather nice even to be so young. It's hard to see child actresses grow up but ones like Abigail, Dakota fanning, and even emma watson are turning into fabulous young ladies!

I am sorry to say that i totally disagree with you. Strapless dresses are for MATURE ADULTS, not 13 year old kids like abigail. She may think she is sooo cool by wearing that stupid dress, but actually she reeks. Plus her boobs aren't big enough. I think abigail looked better when she was young. At least she doesn't wear reavealing dresses like this one. I'm surprised her mom even allowed it.

lauren.... did you ever wear a tube top in your teens? She looks great! at least the dress comes to her knees. I'm sure she doesn't wear this to the mall or church.

look at her feet. she doesn't even know how to stand in high heels. she looks awkward and unsteady in those shoes - and she seems to be walking on the outsides of the heels. even if she weren't too young for the shoes (and she is), she has no idea how to stand in them. this is reason alone not to have worn them.

the outfit is too mature for her and the shoes emphatically make the case as well.

She looks her age. It's just a dress, and at her age, she should have boobs anyways. I think It's about time she's aged because she looked like a nine-year-old for three years now.

Yeah i know she aged but it just isn't time for her to wear sexy dresses yet. Single strapped dresses are fine but strapless, ugh!!

Give her some credit for wearing strapless tastefully, the kid > tween/teen is a hard gap to bridge and others have certainly made a larger mess of it.

I think it's perfectly fine-she is a teenager now, not a little girl. At least she dressed more appropriately dressed than some of the other girls her age.

i am in 7th grade and we had our semi a couple of weeks ago. there were girls in dresses just like this, and some even worse. my dress had spegetti straps becasue i wanted there to be straps so when i danced the dress wwouldn't fall down, but if i were going to a formal event like this i dont see a problem with wearing a dress like her. its not super-tight and its just kind of flowy. relax people..

Thank you Megan! I'm 15 and I had dresses like this at 13. Its not that serious at all. Its a little mature, sure, but she has to grow up eventually. The outfit is gorgeous! I'd rock it anytime!

For my eigth grade graduation I wore a strapless dress, no big deal, she's 13, as long as she it looks appropriate and she looks good (which she does) then there's nothing wrong. And as to the heals, well you have to learn to wear them some time, just like everything else, just start with small ones first, hers don't look too high.

The way abigail is dressing is fine for her she is a teenager and if she needs to change her style then let her! she has ever right to dress the way she wants and were no one to judge her. I feel the dress is very pretty on her and people who dont agree with me then they need to stop judging her! or kids who dress diffrently because kids need to grow up there not always going be your little angels! and just because she dresses up like that dosent mean she'll turn into miley cyrus!

I think she looks phenomenal. Many dresses these days are strapless, it is what's in style. Abigail's dress is not too short, or too tight, it is just strapless and I do not see a problem with that. I think she looks stunning. I believe the other people who are freaking out are just insecure about themselves. Female's do not have to be big chested to wear strapless dresses. There are many older women that are the same bra size as Abigail Breslin. It's a wonderful dress, and I'm sure her designer made it especially for her. It does not show too much, it is just a pretty dress. So chill out people!

i think its very uptight to say that she looks too old. she is a teenager now and its good that she ISN'T dressing like a 7 year old. She looks beautiful, and i think that critiquing her so harshly is petty and mean. she's growing up. let her.

This is a very mature movie shes in, shes acting out a mature book. Why shouldn't she be allowed to dressed mature for the movie release. If the dress was a bright red, and she had silver shoes on... id say it was to much. But the color is beautiful for her skin tone. Its a tasteful dress and would look very odd with straps. Sure the dress is a little mature, but I don't think strapless as long as its very tasteful and doesn't show alot of cleavage if any is wrong for her age. Shes a teenager now, i see girls her age walking around in daisy dukes and ittty bitty tight tanktops. So why should a beautiful dress that makes her look beautiful and feel beautiful be so wrong when girls her age are wear much less and much worse.
